We are now into our second year with DS Fencing, and it has truly been a wonderful journey. From the very beginning, the coaches left a strong impression on us while we were searching for a club to enroll our child in. Trusting our instincts led us to join this club, and we couldn’t be happier with our decision.

Our child looks forward to every lesson with Coach Sean. He consistently demonstrates professionalism in his coaching and has played a significant role in developing our son’s skills. Beyond that, his dedication and enthusiasm for introducing fencing to the younger generation are truly commendable.
Encouraged my son to pick up this sport because the venue is near to our home but didn’t think that he would want to continue this sport long-term. After only 1.5 years, he has learnt and grown a lot- fitness, sports-skills and confidence wise through DS Fencing. And he is also inspired to improve on his fencing skills and join more competitions. Truly appreciate Coaches Darryl and Sean for their guidance and support!

I would like to share my experience with my son's fencing class. He started at the age of 5, and at first, he was a bit nervous. However, the teachers create a wonderful balance between fun and proper instruction, which has made it enjoyable for him to continue. As a result, I can see clear growth in his skills.

I believe that feeling happy and wanting to participate is the most important aspect of sports and learning at a young age. My goal is not to force him to engage but to help build his confidence, as this makes practicing much more enjoyable. I'm truly grateful for the positive experience he’s having in this class, where he can learn and grow in a supportive environment.

My daughter started fencing at DS Fencing in October 2024. As a newcomer to the sport, I wanted her to join an academy where she could learn at her own pace and enjoy the experience, especially after spending several years in a completely different sport.

From the start, I was impressed by DS Fencing. Coaches Darryl and Sean are dedicated, passionate, and truly committed to making fencing accessible to all. They took the time to understand my daughter’s sporting background, were patient in guiding her, and—most importantly—made every session fun and engaging for all the kids (and even adult students!). The coaches also maintain open communication with parents, providing updates and ensuring we are involved in their learning journey.

As a parent of a young athlete, it’s incredibly rewarding to see such a positive and supportive environment, and nothing makes me happier than seeing my daughter enjoy her fencing classes. She now loves the sport so much that she looks forward to every session!

My daughter has been with Asgard for almost 9 years now. We found the coaches to be very supportive, understanding, and they really care about the fencers' growth as sportspersons (and more broadly as a person with desirable traits such as perseversance, fairness) as much as, if not more than, sporting achievement. High fencing standards/ goals are set and numerous competitive opportunities, both local and international, are identified and availed to fencers at suitable junctures to hone their skills, gain experience, and venture as far as he or she could in the sport. Yet, the club also understands that there are other aspects of a fencer's life e.g., school studies, getting adequate rest, that require attention. Hence it does its best to work out suitable training arrangements and pace that work for individual fencer. The club never neglects the social aspect and regularly organises interesting events to build team spirit and sense of belonging. In a nutshell, it is safe to say we'd never regret joining Asgard.

Coach Daniel is a driven, dedicated and passionate coach, making sure to focus on every detail and explains things in a way that every fencer can understand.
Also the kids favourite Coach YeKai, with him around always make the lessons with so much fun and laughters.

My child is an introvert who does not like outdoor sports, as such we decided to introduce fencing to her when we chanced upon ABF. We knew very little of this sport and alot of uncertainties and unfamiliarities set in when we decided to let her join ABF. We were impressed by Coach Ye Kai during the trial lesson because he guided my child with confidence and explained patiently throughout the trial lesson. We signed up with ABF after the trial. Since then, Coach Ye Kai has been very encouraging, my child becomes more confident and more interested in sports. We realised that fencing is not only about complex physical manoeuvre, it also requires mental discipline to perform properly and well. Taking this opportunity, we would like to thank Coach Wenying and Coach Daniel too, for guiding our child during the Minime competition. She was extremely nervous on that day and made so many mistakes. We thought that she would be daunted by the competition. However, the coaches at ABF went through a post competition debrief session with her and it turned out to be an enriching experience with positive takeaways. Kudos to all ABF Coaches! Thank you for your passion in guiding the little kids to fence! You have made fencing into a safe and fun sport for the young ones to learn!! Many thanks 😊

The supportive and dedicated coaches not only taught him the art of fencing but also instilled confidence and teamwork. This year, under their guidance, he achieved a milestone by winning his first Gold medal in U12 Boys Epee at the Singapore Minime in May! 🥇 We’re so grateful for the friendships and skills he’s gained along the way. We had an amazing time at the Valentine's Day couples' fencing event! Huge thanks to Nick, Thomas and Salah for being such patient and knowledgeable coaches. We went from learning the basics to sparring in just one session. The extra perks (roses, chocolates, and champagne) were a lovely surprise. A perfect mix of sport and celebration - would highly recommend giving their trial session a go if you’re on the “fence”!

I did the trial, coached by Vicky and it was fun, well-structured, and beginner-friendly. She explained the basics clearly, provided proper gear, and made sparring drills exciting yet safe. A great mix of workout and strategy, perfect intro to fencing!

went for a mon, 5.30pm, trial class with my friend and we were the only ones. vicky was our instructor and she was so patient and detailed in answering all the questions that we had. since it was a trial class, we just learned the basics, lunging, and had a short spar at the end. before we knew it, it was already an hour. would definitely recommend the trial class for those interested in trying out a new sports/just looking for a fun activity to try out with your friends and partners!

The trial session was really fun with coach alvin. Started off with some light drills and got to spar. Liked it so much that I went for the foundation classes.

How to Choose the Best Fencing Class for Your Child

  • Coach experience: Look for coaches with solid fencing backgrounds and recognised certifications, plus experience teaching children rather than only competitive athletes.
  • Weapon type: Check if the centre focuses on epee, sabre, or foil, or if children can try different weapons before specialising.
  • Beginner suitability: Make sure the programme offers a gentle, structured introduction if your child has no prior experience.
  • Age fit: Choose classes organised by age or developmental stage so your child trains with peers of similar readiness.
  • Teaching style: Find a coaching style that matches your child’s temperament, whether they need structure or a more encouraging approach.
  • Class size and attention: Smaller or well-managed classes help children get better correction and supervision.
  • Safety and supervision: Ask about safety protocols, protective equipment, and how coaches supervise younger children.
  • Facilities and training environment: Look for proper flooring, fencing pistes, and appropriately sized training spaces.
  • Progress pathway: If you expect long-term involvement, pick a centre with clear levels, grading, or milestones.
  • Values and personal development: Consider whether the centre intentionally builds discipline, sportsmanship, and resilience.
  • Competitive versus recreational goals: Decide if you want a relaxed extracurricular or a performance-focused pathway.
  • Trial class options: A trial lesson lets you see how your child responds to the coach and environment before committing.
  • Equipment support: It helps when clubs loan gear or let beginners start without immediately buying a full set.
  • Schedule and accessibility: Choose timings and a venue that fit your family routine and travel constraints.
  • Fee clarity: Ask about registration fees, deposits, equipment costs, and available discounts to understand the full budget.
  • Parent communication: A centre that keeps parents informed about progress and next steps makes the experience smoother.
  • Long-term interest: The best fit keeps your child motivated, safe, and keen to return each week.

I’m very grateful to MindFlex, especially Alyssa and her team, for their patience and dedication in helping to source a suitable tutor for my son.

This is the 2nd time I look for them to source a tutor. This time round I had more specific requirements, including the tutor’s age group, gender and most importantly, someone who is patient and able to communicate well with students who are weaker in Chinese. Alyssa and the team were understanding, responsive and professional throughout the entire process.

They took the effort to carefully match a tutor who suits my son’s learning needs and personality. I truly appreciate their commitment and excellent service. Highly recommended for parents looking for reliable and attentive tuition support!
