Free Request For Tuition

Choosing the right Secondary Higher Chinese tuition can feel tougher than expected, especially when your teen is already managing schoolwork, tests, CCA and the ongoing pressure of keeping Higher Chinese grades up. Some teens know the vocabulary but freeze during oral. Others can read the passage, yet still drop marks in comprehension because their answers are too broad or not precise enough. This guide brings together 10 Secondary Higher Chinese tuition centres in Singapore for parents who want a clearer starting point. Whether you are looking for a structured Secondary Higher Chinese tuition centre, flexible home support, or stronger O Level preparation, the list below looks at what each provider offers and why it may matter for your teen.

Key Takeaways

  • Secondary Higher Chinese tuition works best when it targets the exact weak areas, such as oral, comprehension, composition, or exam answering technique.
  • Different Secondary Higher Chinese tuition centres suit different teens. Some need one-to-one support, while others do better in a small group with stronger peer discussion.
  • Parents should compare teacher experience, lesson format, convenience, and how well each programme supports O Level Higher Chinese demands.

MindFlex – Your Best Platform for Secondary Higher Chinese Home Tuition

MindFlex - Your Best Platform for Secondary Higher Chinese Home Tuition

Overview of Business

MindFlex Tuition Agency is a Singapore home tuition agency that helps families find suitable private tutors for Secondary Higher Chinese tuition. Instead of running one fixed classroom programme, MindFlex matches parents with tutors who can teach at home or online based on the teen’s level, learning pace, schedule and goals. This can be especially helpful for families who feel a standard group class may not be enough, particularly when a teen needs focused support with oral response, comprehension accuracy, composition structure or O Level Higher Chinese preparation. Because the matching process is personalised, parents can request tutors that fit both academic needs and budget. MindFlex also supports a wide range of secondary subjects, so families who later need broader secondary tuition support can continue using the same platform. The service is built around flexibility, convenience and targeted one-to-one academic support.

Why Parents Choose MindFlex?

Many parents choose MindFlex because Secondary Higher Chinese tuition often works best when lessons are shaped around a teen’s actual weak spots. A tutor can slow down for someone who struggles with comprehension explanation, or spend more time on oral and composition when school exams are getting closer. MindFlex also suits busy families because lessons can be arranged at home or online, which cuts down travel after school and CCA. The free tutor-matching service also takes some pressure off parents who do not want to search from scratch, and families can compare tutor profiles before deciding. For teens who have become discouraged in class, that more individual setting can also help rebuild confidence over time.

I’m very grateful to MindFlex, especially Alyssa and her team, for their patience and dedication in helping to source a suitable tutor for my son.

This is the 2nd time I look for them to source a tutor. This time round I had more specific requirements, including the tutor’s age group, gender and most importantly, someone who is patient and able to communicate well with students who are weaker in Chinese. Alyssa and the team were understanding, responsive and professional throughout the entire process.

They took the effort to carefully match a tutor who suits my son’s learning needs and personality. I truly appreciate their commitment and excellent service. Highly recommended for parents looking for reliable and attentive tuition support!

He is extremely knowledgeable, patient, and dedicated—qualities that have made a huge difference in my son’s learning journey. My Primary 4 son has shown remarkable improvement in his Chinese since starting lessons, and we are so grateful for the progress.

Beyond the academic results, Mr. Tan’s teaching style has built my son’s confidence and interest in the subject. He is punctual, pleasant disposition and understands what a child needs. The entire experience with Mind Flex has also been very pleasant, professional, and supportive.

1. HCL Education Group

1. HCL Education Group

Overview of Business

HCL Education Group is one of the more established names parents often come across when searching for Secondary Higher Chinese tuition in Singapore. Founded in 2006 by Mr Wang Deqing, HCL focuses specifically on Chinese and Higher Chinese, which can matter for teens who need specialist support rather than broad secondary tuition. Their secondary programmes cover Sec 1 to Sec 4 Higher Chinese, including O Level preparation, and the organisation has built a large full-time teaching team over the years. For parents, that clear subject focus can be reassuring when a teen is struggling with the jump from school-based understanding to exam-standard answering. HCL also highlights a strong results track record in Higher Chinese and uses named techniques for oral, composition and comprehension. With many branches across Singapore, they are often shortlisted by families who want a structured Higher Chinese programme without having to travel too far each week.

Why Parents Choose HCL Education Group?

Parents often choose HCL Education Group because Secondary Higher Chinese tuition usually calls for more than general language exposure. Teens need precise answering, stronger vocabulary control and confidence with oral discussion under exam pressure. HCL’s long-running Chinese-only focus, sizeable full-time teacher team and established methods can appeal to families who want a programme built around those exact demands. Their track record in Sec 3 and Sec 4 Higher Chinese is also likely to matter to parents who feel anxious after weak school results and want a centre that understands O Level expectations clearly. Multiple branches also help, because convenience often affects whether a teen can keep up with tuition consistently over time.

HCL is one of the better cl tuition i have seen so far.the lessons are conducted in a structured way and there are times when students are required to use critical thinking and techniques taught in order to score well.the teachers there are very hardworking and all of them are experienced cl teachers.but the reason this is 4 stars is because the lessons can be quite demanding and hw submissions when I was in primary sch was quite demanding to me also.but otherwise quite good and relatively cheap tuition available compared to other cp tuitions

Zhang Juan Laoshi has been coaching my son Yikang since P4. She is a very responsible tutor who will meet me after class or call to update me on his progress. She presents a realistic reflection of his work and marks his compositions steadily. Knowing that he needs more help in comprehension, she provides extra consultation sessions by going through the extra comprehension exercises he did at home. During PSLE oral preparations, the class could also come an hour earlier to practise oral. She is really a dedicated tutor and he is lucky to learn under her guidance and achieved AL2 for Chinese and Merit for Higher Mother Tongue in the 2025 PSLE.

My K1 son has been with HCL for a year. His Chinese was very poor at the beginning but since he started HCL, he has improved a lot. He is able to read Chinese well and his writing has improved so much. Huang Lao Shi is a very passionate and patient teacher who put a lot of care for her students. My son is motivated to learn under her and she would really take the time to make sure his writing strokes are correct. Huang Lao Shi is very encouraging to him and she is his favorite teacher. Dear Teacher Vicky,

I am writing to sincerely thank you for the outstanding guidance and support you have provided Ivy in her English learning. Your expertise, patience, and dedication are truly commendable.

What we particularly appreciate is your systematic approach to teaching. Before exams, you thoroughly review all essential grammar topics that frequently appear in tests, ensuring Ivy has a solid grasp of key concepts. Moreover, you carefully analyze her performance in practice tests and tailor your instruction to address recurring weaknesses, which has been incredibly helpful in strengthening her skills.

Beyond academics, your warm and encouraging teaching style has made Ivy genuinely enjoy her English lessons. She always looks forward to your classes and has gained remarkable confidence under your guidance.

Thank you for being such an inspiring and responsible teacher. We feel very fortunate to have you in Ivy's learning journey.

2. Busy Bees Learning Centre

2. Busy Bees Learning Centre

Overview of Business

Busy Bees Learning Centre is a specialist Chinese enrichment provider that has been around since 2000. For parents looking specifically for Secondary Higher Chinese tuition, their Sec 1 to Sec 4 O Level Chinese and Higher Chinese programme is the key offering. The founders are described as experienced former teachers from a local secondary school, and the teaching team includes MOE-registered, native Mandarin-speaking educators. That background may reassure parents who are concerned that their teen is not just weak in vocabulary, but also struggling with the school syllabus and exam style. Busy Bees places strong emphasis on systematic teaching, personalised support and exam-focused preparation. Their published results and long history make them a familiar option for families who want a centre with a clear Chinese-language specialisation. For teens who need more structure and consistency in Higher Chinese, that focused setup may be especially appealing.

Why Parents Choose Busy Bees Learning Centre?

Busy Bees Learning Centre may appeal to parents who want a very focused Chinese programme rather than a general secondary tuition provider. Secondary Higher Chinese tuition can become stressful when a teen is trying hard but still cannot convert practice into grades. Busy Bees highlights structured lessons, MOE-aligned teaching and targeted support across composition, comprehension, oral and listening. That matters because Higher Chinese students often do not need vague encouragement, they need sharper methods and clear correction. Their O Level track record may also give parents more confidence that the teaching is exam-aware. Smaller teaching groups can further help teens who need direct feedback without feeling too exposed in a larger class.

The teachers in Busy Bees Hillview are professional and patient, always ensuring every student keeps up with the lessons. The notes provided are concise, easy to understand, and cover all the points comprehensively. Each lesson is well-structured and highly engaging, making learning enjoyable and effective. A big thank you to the center and the teachers for their hard work and commitment to helping students excel!

Subjects Offered

  • Secondary Chinese (Sec 1-4)
  • Secondary Higher Chinese (Sec 1-4)
  • O Level Preparation (Sec 4)

Teaching Methodology

  • The curriculum is systematically developed, which may suit teens who need lessons that build skills in a clear sequence instead of random drilling.
  • Lessons are aligned with the MOE syllabus and assessment formats, helping tuition stay relevant to what teens face in school and national exams.
  • Higher Chinese classes focus on advanced vocabulary, idioms and expressions, which is useful for students whose language sounds too basic for Higher Chinese standards.
  • In-depth comprehension and literary appreciation work may help teens move from surface understanding to stronger analysis.
  • Composition teaching covers structure, ideas and analysis, which can support teens who have content in mind but cannot shape it into a high-scoring essay.
  • Oral practice and listening work are built into the Secondary programme, which matters because some teens can write reasonably but underperform badly in spoken components.

Location and Availability

Busy Bees Learning Centre runs classes in the Bukit Timah area, with locations at HillV2 Mall and Balmoral Plaza. This may suit families living nearby who want in-person Secondary Higher Chinese tuition in a more established education belt.

Price Range

For Sec 1 to Sec 4 students, lessons run for 2 hours per session. Regular fee amounts are not clearly published, so parents would have to contact Busy Bees Learning Centre directly for more details on tuition rates.

3. Hua Cheng Education Centre

3. Hua Cheng Education Centre

Overview of Business

Hua Cheng Education Centre, part of the Learning Point Group, offers Chinese tuition from K2 through secondary levels, including Secondary Higher Chinese tuition for students preparing for O Level examinations. For parents comparing Secondary Higher Chinese tuition centres, Hua Cheng stands out for combining exam preparation with a broader language-learning approach. Their tutors are native speakers with experience in the Singapore education system, which may matter if your teen needs support that feels authentic in language use while still staying closely aligned to local exam expectations. Hua Cheng also shares a solid results record in both Express Chinese and Higher Chinese. That can be reassuring for families who are unsure whether tuition is simply adding extra practice, or genuinely helping to build exam performance. The programme is designed to maximise scoring potential through comprehension, composition, oral and targeted answering techniques, which are often the exact pain points for Higher Chinese students.

Why Parents Choose Hua Cheng Education Centre?

Parents may choose Hua Cheng because Secondary Higher Chinese tuition often needs to balance language depth with exam practicality. Some teens can speak or understand Chinese reasonably well, yet still lose marks because their answers lack precision or their writing lacks structure. Hua Cheng focuses on exam readiness while still building broader language confidence, which may suit teens who need both. Small classes and personalised feedback can be especially valuable for children who stay quiet in school and rarely clarify their mistakes. Regular assessments and progress updates may also help parents who feel frustrated not knowing whether tuition is actually closing the learning gaps.

We enrolled our daughter at Hua Cheng Thomson Plaza last year to prepare her for her PSLE. After joining Hua Cheng, she became more confident in her Chinese and thanks to the efforts of her tutor, Ms Ma, she did well in both her Chinese and Higher Chinese.

The administrative staff at the center is also very helpful and responsive whenever we have any enquiry and need clarification.

We are very surprised by my child’s “O” Level Chinese results. She rarely speaks Chinese, lower sec results were not good, and I would be happy if can even achieve B3, but she had A1 instead for her Chinese and distinction for her oral. I’m sure her Teacher Liu makes a lot of difference in inspiring her. Spoke with the teacher a few times and can tell she is very passionate and committed in wanting the students to do well. Very grateful for her commitment and efforts. Thks

The teachers are very patient and consistently update parents on the areas where the children need support. My daughter’s results were not ideal initially, but within just nine months at Hua Cheng, her PSLE Prelim score improved from 6 points to 5 points. Subjects Offered

  • Secondary Chinese (Sec 1-4)
  • Secondary Higher Chinese (Sec 1-4)
  • O Level Preparation (Sec 4)

Teaching Methodology

  • Hua Cheng uses a holistic approach with interactive activities and real-life application, which may help teens engage with the language instead of treating Higher Chinese as pure memorisation.
  • Teaching is tailored to each student’s strengths and weaknesses, useful for parents whose teen may only be weak in one or two components such as oral or comprehension.
  • Comprehension practice focuses on analysing passages, identifying key ideas and answering accurately, which directly targets a common Higher Chinese weakness.
  • Composition lessons train students to organise content, use language effectively and write with more clarity and creativity.
  • Mock exams are used to familiarise students with exam conditions, which can help reduce panic and time mismanagement in school tests.
  • Regular oral practice works on pronunciation, fluency and confidence, which matters for teens who know the language but hesitate badly when speaking.

4. Hua Yi Education

4. Hua Yi Education

Overview of Business

Hua Yi Education, also referred to as Huayi Academy, has been offering Chinese education in Singapore since 2003. Their programmes span preschool to secondary levels, with secondary students supported through a Chinese enrichment course that includes vocabulary, idioms, comprehension, composition, oral and writing skills. For parents searching for Secondary Higher Chinese tuition, Hua Yi’s appeal lies in its interest-based approach. That can matter when a teen has started to resist the subject emotionally, not just academically. Many parents will recognise the pattern, the more they push, the more the child shuts down. Huayi Academy aims to make Chinese more engaging while still keeping exam readiness and results in view. The teaching team is described as qualified, native-speaking and experienced, with small classes intended to improve interaction. For teens who need both motivation and structured language support, this may be a helpful combination.

Why Parents Choose Hua Yi Education?

Parents may shortlist Hua Yi Education when their teen’s struggle with Higher Chinese is not only about weak marks, but also low confidence and poor motivation. Secondary Higher Chinese tuition can backfire if lessons feel like endless correction without helping the teen reconnect with the language. Hua Yi’s interest-based and interactive approach may work better for students who have become disengaged. Small classes can also be helpful if a child needs space to speak, ask questions and receive guidance more comfortably. At the same time, the programme still includes exam-oriented elements such as comprehension, composition and oral practice, which keeps it relevant for school assessment needs.

5. Xuelin Learning Hub

5. Xuelin Learning Hub

Overview of Business

Xuelin Learning Hub is a specialist Chinese tuition provider established in 2011, with programmes for preschool, primary and secondary students. For families looking into Secondary Higher Chinese tuition, Xuelin is relevant because they focus closely on Chinese-language skills across composition, comprehension, oral communication, vocabulary and exam preparation. Their classes are conducted in small groups and are available in both physical and online formats, which gives parents more flexibility when balancing school schedules and travel. Xuelin also weaves current affairs and cultural enrichment into its curriculum, an angle that may help secondary students develop more substance in oral and written expression. Parents who are worried that their teen understands the textbook but still sounds shallow or formulaic in Higher Chinese may find that especially useful. With six centres across Singapore and monthly progress reports, Xuelin offers a structured but fairly accessible option for ongoing language support.

Why Parents Choose Xuelin Learning Hub?

Xuelin Learning Hub may appeal to parents who want Secondary Higher Chinese tuition that is both exam-aware and language-rich. Some teens can memorise set phrases, but their oral answers still sound thin and their essays lack depth. Xuelin’s use of current affairs, one-to-one oral simulations and regular progress reporting may help address that gap more directly. Small classes can also make a real difference for children who need immediate correction but may not thrive in a large room. Monthly reports are useful for parents who do not want to wait until the next school exam to find out whether their teen is still repeating the same mistakes.

My son is very hyper(ADHD). I sent him to Berries for 2 trial lessons, the well known ctr rejected him as they said he can’t sit properly. I chance upon Xue Lin and sent him for 4 trial lessons, the Teachers and owners are all very sincere and I can really tell that they sincerely want to help my boy improve. Their class size are relatively small and I like that as teacher can better manage all the kids in class comparing to those big classroom setup. I am very thankful that they look beyond my boy’s issue(unable to sit properly) and focus on helping my boy improve his Chinese. Thumbs up XueLin!
Hi! I'm a secondary school student, and I've attended around a year's worth of tuition lessons here. My Chinese standard has undoubtedly increased after the lessons, especially with the help of the teachers! Personally, I choose to go for tuition lessons on top of the usual school lessons not because the school lessons are inadequate, but because I would prefer to have more practice in certain areas (eg. 短文填空/病句改正). The teachers here take note of every student's progress and they print out worksheets that give students much-needed practice. It's also clear that the teachers care a lot about the students, and their encouragement and support really help!

  • Composition teaching covers paragraph structure, vocabulary and story development, useful for students whose essays feel flat or poorly organised.
  • Comprehension lessons focus on paraphrasing, fact-finding and structured answering, which targets a very common Higher Chinese scoring issue.
  • One-to-one oral simulations with direct feedback can help teens who freeze during spoken components despite understanding the topic.

6. Choice Hua Sheng

6. Choice Hua Sheng

Overview of Business

Choice Hua Sheng is a Chinese tuition and enrichment provider with a presence in several parts of Singapore. Their programmes include Secondary Chinese tuition and Secondary Higher Chinese tuition, making them a relevant option for families specifically seeking support in this subject area. While the publicly available details are lighter than some larger brands, their core positioning is built around the belief that every child can succeed with the right guidance, support and inspiration. For parents, that may resonate when a teen’s Higher Chinese performance is tied as much to confidence and discouragement as it is to language skill. Choice Hua Sheng appears to focus specifically on Chinese across levels, which can feel more reassuring than choosing a general secondary tuition provider with a much broader subject spread. If you are looking for a Chinese-focused provider with a few physical locations, they may be worth comparing alongside more established specialist names.

Why Parents Choose Choice Hua Sheng?

Choice Hua Sheng may suit parents who want a Chinese-focused environment for Secondary Higher Chinese tuition without making the search feel overly complicated. When a teen is underperforming in Higher Chinese, many parents feel torn between pushing harder and trying not to cause burnout. A provider that emphasises support and guidance can be appealing in that situation. Because Choice Hua Sheng specifically offers Secondary Higher Chinese tuition and O Level preparation, the setup is still relevant for academic needs rather than being purely enrichment-based. Their multiple locations may also help families stay consistent with lessons, which matters because language improvement usually comes from regular correction and repeated practice, not last-minute cramming.

i have been in hua sheng for 6 years. the teachers in hua sheng have shaped me and helped me with my chinese learning. they have taught me different techniques on how to approach these different questions. all of my teachers have been kind to me and have always been willing to help me when i am unable to answer some questions. i have 2 hua sheng lessons per week. one is ACE, and the other is CCW. my ACE teacher has taught me the different ways and types of questions that could possibly come out in the exams. my CCW teacher has taught me how to improve on my composition writing and she has also taught me different 好词好句 for me to write in my composition. overall, i really enjoy going to hua sheng and would recommend my friends to sign up.

We have only been a part of Huasheng for 1.5 term and in this short period, the end-of-year oral exam for P5 arrived. With the professional support from the school and Teacher Yang, my son surprisingly achieved a score of 48/50 in the oral exam, which amazed and delighted us. We are deeply grateful for the teacher's patient guidance and teaching methods. We hope my son will continue to work even harder in the future. The school's overall management is highly professional, the teachers are skilled, and the teaching approach is fresh and humorous, which our child truly enjoys.
Thank you so much

The content of Huacheng's lesson materials is very close to my school worksheets. Also, my teacher taught really well. Thanks to her clear and effective teaching, my vocabulary has improved significantly. She also gave me many useful tips, such as memorising the proper format for 公务电邮.

  • Secondary Higher Chinese (Sec 1-4)

  • That approach may matter for teens who have ability but are currently discouraged by repeated weak results in Higher Chinese.

7. Chen Higher Chinese

7. Chen Higher Chinese

Overview of Business

Chen Higher Chinese is a dedicated Chinese tuition provider for Primary, Secondary and Junior College students, with a clear emphasis on helping students build stronger command of the language. For parents searching for Secondary Higher Chinese tuition, one distinctive feature is the blend of physical and online learning options, including Ms Chen’s Chinese Writing Buddy Programme for composition practice. This can be especially useful if your teen’s main weakness is written expression rather than every paper component. The centre also highlights qualified educators, including current or former MOE teachers specialising in Chinese or Higher Chinese, as well as NTU or NIE students pursuing Chinese language studies. That may reassure parents who want tutors with proper subject grounding. Chen Higher Chinese also places value on emotional connection to the language, which is important for teens who have grown technically competent but still write in a stiff, reluctant or overly formulaic way.

Why Parents Choose Chen Higher Chinese?

Parents may be drawn to Chen Higher Chinese when their teen needs especially focused help in writing and language expression. In Secondary Higher Chinese tuition, composition can be one of the most frustrating areas because a child may practice often without understanding why the writing still feels weak. The structured Writing Buddy programme offers regular assignments, detailed marking and model compositions, which can make improvement more visible. That kind of feedback matters to parents who are tired of hearing only that their teen should simply read more or memorise better phrases. Online access also reduces travel, which may suit secondary students already stretched by long school days and CCA.

Both of my kids engaged Ms Chen for their O-level HCL in the past 3 years. They love her lessons as they are very structured and applicable to life and exams. I bought her oral practice book for them and the content was superb. The insights given were applicable to oral and written exams. What makes Ms Chen stand out is her dedication and care for each of her students. I accidentally found an encouragement note written by her to my son before his exam. It really warmed my heart! Thank you Ms Chen for believing in my children and helping them 更上一层樓!

陈老师 is a very kind and helpful teacher! Generally, each lesson is dedicated to one component such as Paper 2. There are lots of opportunities to practice as 陈老师 will print out worksheets with questions you can do. 陈老师 is also very 幽默 so the lessons are quite enjoyable. Sometimes she will also go through news if it is very relevant to our studies (e.g. Green Plan 2030). I would definitely recommend 陈老师!

i’ve been with chenlaoshi for three years and she has helped me broaden my worldviews outside of textbook content!! she makes an effort to connect with all of her students and is always readily available to answer questions even outside of lesson time. she knows what moe wants and always highlights good phrases and articles that can be used to boost scores, and always provides extra practices with specific and helpful feedback. her model compos and answering schemes are very comprehensive and are everything you need 🙂 beyond effectively improving her students’ chinese grades, she also focuses on building rapport with them which inspired me to work harder for chinese and value the language beyond studies. thank you chenlaoshi ❤️❤️❤️

Subjects Offered

  • Guided notes are provided for each composition task, which may support teens who stare at the question and do not know how to begin.
  • Detailed marking and model compositions help students see not just what is wrong, but what a stronger answer looks like.
  • Topics are aligned closely with school composition themes, keeping practice relevant to what teens are likely to face in class.
  • Online and physical classes give families flexibility, especially if the teen needs support but cannot commit easily to extra travel.

8. SLC School of Language and Communication

8. SLC School of Language and Communication

Overview of Business

SLC School of Language and Communication is an education provider established in 2016, offering both English and Chinese programmes across multiple levels. For families exploring Secondary Higher Chinese tuition, SLC is relevant because they specifically offer Secondary Higher Chinese and IP Higher Chinese within a language-focused environment. Their academic team includes former Singaporean school teachers, and the curriculum is managed with input from experienced educators and academic specialists. What may stand out to parents is SLC’s effort to personalise teaching through profile banding, small groups and a team-based teaching model. This can be valuable when a teen’s struggle is not straightforward. Some children need stronger language foundations, while others mainly need sharper exam strategy or oral confidence. SLC also provides hybrid learning and consultation support, which may make ongoing tuition more manageable for busy families who want consistency without being tied to only one format.

Why Parents Choose SLC School of Language and Communication?

Parents often worry that Secondary Higher Chinese tuition will become another weekly lesson where their teen quietly falls behind. SLC may appeal because their classes are small, around six students, and their profile banding approach tries to group students by ability and learning style more thoughtfully. That can matter for Higher Chinese, where some teens need foundational rebuilding while others need refinement for distinction-level performance. The team-based model and consultation support may also help parents who want more visibility on progress instead of waiting for the next school result slip. Hybrid lessons add practical flexibility, which is often the difference between sustainable tuition and a schedule that becomes too tiring to keep up.

The online lessons are well-structured, engaging, and suited to my child’s learning pace. The teachers are patient and provide useful practice and feedback. In addition, the teachers are accommodating to the timing of the make up lessons. The administrative support is great too.

Highly recommend SLC for students who need help with their languages!

SLC is a great place for tuition if you want a personalized experience. Your syllabus is customized for your learning and can also put you ahead of your peers in terms of answering and writing techniques, and vocabulary.

The tutors are very casual and friendly, so do not be afraid to strike up a conversation with them, but don't drag it on! They also can go fast or slow, depending on your preference!

SLC has not only allowed me to improve in my Chinese ability, but also do it in an enjoyable way. Highly recommended!

Subjects Offered

  • Secondary English (Sec 1-4)
  • Secondary Chinese (Sec 1-4)
  • Secondary Higher Chinese (Sec 1-4)
  • O Level Preparation (Sec 4)

Teaching Methodology

  • SLC uses profile banding to assess learning style, behaviour and language proficiency, which may help place teens in a more suitable class instead of a one-size-fits-all group.
  • Higher Chinese lessons are personalised through core banded classes and bilingual tutors, useful for teens who need difficult concepts explained more clearly.
  • The curriculum is broken into conceptual modules, helping students strengthen basics before moving into more demanding question types.
  • Small group classes, usually around six students, can give more room for participation and teacher feedback.
  • Unlimited open consultation sessions may help teens clarify recurring mistakes before those errors become habits.
  • Hybrid lessons allow switching between in-person and online attendance, which can support consistency during packed school periods.

Location and Availability

Classes are based at Jalan Pemimpin near Marymount MRT, and SLC also offers online and hybrid options. This may suit families who want the flexibility to switch between physical and remote lessons when schedules get tight.

Price Range

Fees are generally advised after assessing the child’s learning needs. Affordable classes are available, but exact Secondary Higher Chinese rates are not clearly listed.

9. Hao Language School

9. Hao Language School

Overview of Business

Hao Language School is a specialist Chinese tuition provider offering programmes for Primary, Secondary and Junior College students, along with adult Mandarin courses. For parents seeking Secondary Higher Chinese tuition, the most relevant features are their dedicated Higher Chinese programmes, small-group classes and customised one-to-one tuition options. Hao Language School separates Express Chinese and Higher Chinese teaching, which is important because the demands are not the same. A teen taking Higher Chinese often needs stronger analytical reading, richer vocabulary and more mature oral and written expression, not just more worksheets. The school also combines exam preparation with cultural and current-affairs content, which may help students sound less mechanical in oral or writing tasks. Located beside Ang Mo Kio MRT, Hao Language School can be a convenient option for families who want a Chinese specialist with both group and individual lesson formats.

Why Parents Choose Hao Language School?

Hao Language School may suit parents who want Secondary Higher Chinese tuition in a smaller, more personalised setting. Classes are generally capped at 2 to 6 students, which may be especially helpful for teens who need direct correction but do not benefit from very large groups. Bilingual teachers can also be a practical advantage for children from English-speaking homes who understand less than they appear to. Rather than relying only on memorisation, Hao Language School uses exam techniques, current affairs and cultural content, which may help teens build more authentic language strength. That matters when a teen can study hard yet still sounds stiff, shallow or unsure in Higher Chinese responses.

My son has been with Li LaoShi for 6 years from P5 to S4. Really cant do without her help. She will give the students intensive revision before the exam such as 10 year series and keep reiterating on the things to look out for during the oral, composition and papers. Before exam, the students will immerse themselves in the learning environment for several hours to do papers together.

She has the heart of her students. As my son is not consistent with his homework, she allows him to stay back to complete the homework before leaving the class and coach and monitor his progress. She will do whatever it takes to help her students.

At times, she gives them incentives such as pizza treats and / or bubble tea to encourage them to press on for the preparations.

I am really appreciative of her teaching to level up my son's standard from failing chinese to a grade we are very happy with.

Thanks Li LaoShi for being there for us.

Subjects Offered

  • Secondary Chinese (Sec 1-5)
  • Secondary Higher Chinese (Sec 1-4)
  • O Level Preparation (Sec 4)

Teaching Methodology

  • Express Chinese and Higher Chinese are taught separately, which matters because Higher Chinese students need a different depth of vocabulary and analysis.
  • Small-group classes of 2 to 6 students may give teens more direct feedback and less room to hide weak habits.
  • Bilingual teachers can explain difficult concepts in English where necessary, which may help children who understand instructions better that way.
  • Lessons use in-house notes and worksheets designed for each level, helping practice stay targeted rather than generic.
  • Current-affairs readings are included in selected Secondary programmes, which may strengthen oral discussions and broaden essay ideas.
  • Teaching focuses on skill-based answering techniques rather than pure memorisation, useful for teens who study but still struggle to score.

Location and Availability

Hao Language School operates from Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3, beside Ang Mo Kio MRT and opposite AMK Hub. Small-group and one-to-one arrangements are both available, which gives parents some flexibility depending on how much support their teen needs.

Price Range

Affordable classes are available, but regular tuition fees are not publicly listed, so parents would have to enquire with the school directly. Fees vary by level, stream and whether lessons are conducted in a small group or one-to-one format.

10. Hao Chinese Tuition

10. Hao Chinese Tuition

Overview of Business

Hao Chinese Tuition is a specialist Chinese provider serving students from preschool to secondary school, with MOE-aligned programmes that include support for O Level preparation. For parents comparing Secondary Higher Chinese tuition, Hao Chinese Tuition may stand out for its teacher profile and class format. Their educators include ex-MOE Chinese teachers, curriculum specialists and teachers with advanced academic qualifications in Chinese language and education. The centre also keeps class sizes small, typically around 6 to 8 students, which may be helpful for teens who need quicker correction and more oral participation. Another practical strength is their use of bilingual support, which can matter in families where Chinese is not used much at home. Rather than focusing only on rote practice, the Secondary programme covers comprehension, composition, listening, oral and structured exam strategy, making it relevant for students facing the higher demands of secondary Chinese learning.

Why Parents Choose Hao Chinese Tuition?

Parents may choose Hao Chinese Tuition because Secondary Higher Chinese tuition can feel particularly daunting for teens from English-speaking homes. A child may understand some content but still struggle to express ideas clearly, especially during oral or essay writing. Hao Chinese Tuition’s bilingual teaching support can reduce that barrier without lowering expectations. Small classes also matter, because teens often need immediate correction in wording, tone and answer precision before wrong habits settle in. The programme’s MOE alignment and regular progress tracking may reassure parents who want something structured and accountable. For families who value both academic support and confidence-building, that combination can feel especially reassuring.

I’ve been in this tuition centre for over a year now and I think I’ve improve. i went from D7 (Right before going to the tuition centre) on my first WA to B4 in my End-of-year exam (After about a year in the centre). I really like the teaching style here as the style is extremely interactive and engaging as someone who only started learning chinese at 7 I would usually find Chinese boring and would always hate my Chinese lessons but in this centre, some times I wouldn’t even realise how much time have passed. The teaching style is also very consistent regardless of the teachers here. The teachers are also extremely friendly and encouraging, but they will still correct you when you didn’t do homework or when they think you are not trying hard enough. Overall this tuition centre works for me and I recommend it especially for people that find Chinese boring.

How to Choose the Best Secondary Higher Chinese Tuition for Your Child?

Finding the right Secondary Higher Chinese tuition is rarely just about picking the most familiar name. In many cases, the better fit depends on how your teen is struggling and what kind of support will genuinely help. As you compare Secondary Higher Chinese tuition centres, it helps to keep a few practical points in mind.

  • Choose based on the real weak area, such as oral confidence, comprehension accuracy, composition structure, or overall O Level readiness.
  • Consider whether your child learns better through one-to-one teaching, a very small group, or a more structured classroom environment.
  • Look at tutor experience and subject specialisation, especially whether the teaching is clearly designed for Secondary Higher Chinese rather than general secondary tuition.
  • Factor in class size, travel time, online options, reviews and whether the budget is sustainable for the months your teen will realistically need support.

A balanced choice usually works best. When the teaching approach, schedule and level of support match your teen well, tuition is more likely to feel manageable, productive and worth continuing.
