Introduction

French lessons for kids can build communication skills while introducing children to different cultures, stories and ways of thinking. When choosing French classes in Singapore, parents should consider their child’s age, current ability, confidence and learning goals. Some families may prefer playful early exposure, while others need structured support for school, Mother Tongue-In-Lieu arrangements or examinations such as DELF, IGCSE and IB French. Class size, teaching approach, lesson format and travel time can also affect whether a weekly routine is sustainable. This guide covers 10 French centres in Singapore, with overviews, Google reviews, locations, prices and contact details to help parents find a suitable fit.

A few weeks ago, I went for a tour called The Making of an Étoile. It was an intimate, thoughtfully curated exhibition spread across three or four rooms, featuring ballet costumes (one of the costumes in the images below) and other displays.

The guy in the image I took who works there was my guide, and since no one else booked the same slot, it ended up being a one-to-one tour haha. He was incredibly knowledgeable, so I was surprised to learn that his understanding came not from personal experience, but from speaking with people in the field and learning from their firsthand experiences. It was impressive how quickly and thoroughly he had picked everything up!

The tour also felt very personalised. I knew almost nothing about ballet, so he adjusted his explanations accordingly and patiently answered all my questions. A bonus was finding out about his interest in the architectural aspect of the buildings related too.

I would recommend checking out their future events too for a simple little side quest!

Came to see the special exhibition, Ballet: The Making of an Étoile, which is running until mid-August 2026. It was amazing! We got to see real costumes that had been worn in performances (Don Quixote, Swan Lake, Cinderella) and learnt lots about the ballet world, particularly the Paris Opera Ballet. The exhibition was very informative, and everything was beautifully presented. I would highly recommend visiting - it's free and worth seeing!

Cool place even if you don't speak French. They always got some interesting art exhibitions or indie movie screenings going on. The building has a very calm vibe and the staff are quite friendly. Nice spot to hide from the sun and soak in some culture.

Learning French is not easy especially with all the exceptions. But Alliance Français de Singapour has planned out curriculum by levels that fits well for each.

The 3 hours class on weekday evening can be taxing at times following a long day of work, otherwise, enjoyable experience to met new friends and teachers along the way!

Shoutout to Ms Shenaz for her amazing lessons and patience. Enjoying my classes!

I love learning languages. I wanted to improve my French so I can travel to Paris and other parts of France. I am very satisfied with my teacher and the results that I have achieved so far

I have been having French classes for 6 months now. I find their private lesson approach very suitable to my needs as I was able to progress faster than in a group lesson. I also had the advantage to be able to reschedule my lessons whenever needed so if one week I couldn't have class I would still be able to progress without missing anything!

Our son was struggling with French grammar and writing, and we were looking for extra support to help strengthen his foundations and build his confidence.

Since joining French Pass, we have seen remarkable progress. Emilie is an exceptional teacher who knows exactly how to engage children while maintaining high academic standards. She has a gift for explaining concepts clearly and making learning enjoyable, which has made a real difference for our son.

What impressed us most is how quickly we started seeing results. Within just a few weeks, his confidence, writing skills, and understanding of grammar had noticeably improved.

We highly recommend French Pass to any family looking to help their child improve their French in a supportive, engaging, and effective learning environment.

I highly recommend French Pass in Singapore.

My son is usually not very enthusiastic when it comes to homework or extra study, that’s why we needed support. With Émilie , it’s a completely different story. She is fantastic: patient, engaging, encouraging, and able to make learning French genuinely enjoyable. My son now likes going there. We noticed improvements in his French very quickly, in the areas we came to work on: writing and grammar.

The organisation is also excellent. Dounia is always responsive, professional, and a pleasure to deal with, making the whole experience seamless for parents.

The location is another plus: the learning space is very pleasant, just a short walk from Chinatown MRT, with a nice café downstairs, making it convenient and enjoyable to visit.

If you’re looking to improve your French in Singapore, I highly recommend French Pass. And if you’re lucky enough to secure a spot, don’t hesitate! Give them a call immediately, I should have gone there earlier to solve my homework headache!

I did several sessions of private classes specially for my wedding solemnisation speech with teacher Emilie and the results were amazing. She is an excellent teacher. My french husband understood my french with just listening and my french family no doubt as well! My surprise for husband accomplished successfully!!

It was also a breeze to make arrangements with the school on my special request. Jasmine is always responsive and gave understanding making sure I had the comfort of schedule in the midst of my busy preparations for my big day.

I highly recommend having French lessons here to achieve your goals!

The teacher, Leonie, was incredibly engaging and fun. She knew exactly how to connect with the kids. It was the perfect balance of learning and fun. Highly recommended and we’ll definitely sign up again! 👍🏻

As an IB Bilingual diploma student, finding the right tutor was crucial for me and my tutor Madame Dounia has been amazing. The tutors understand the demands of the IB curriculum including Paper 1, Paper 2, and the individual oral assessment. They provide targeted support to help refine my writing and improve my academic language in French.

What I appreciate most about the lessons is that they are tailored to my needs and pace. My tutor knows exactly what areas I need to work towards and sets me specific tasks to improve these areas. Since starting my lessons with Madame Dounia, my confidence in French has skyrocketed and I feel I am in a good place for my IB exams.

I’ve been taking DELF A2 group classes with Emmanuel, and he’s a wonderful tutor. He’s very patient and takes time to explain grammar questions clearly. I also appreciate how he recaps previous lessons so we don’t forget as we progress which really helps with retention. He also checks in to get student's feedback and is receptive to our inputs, which makes learning with him both effective and enjoyable 👍🏽
French Toast has truly been an amazing journey for me. personally, i find learning languages challenging, but with an extraordinary teacher like Mr. Timothée, every lesson feels exciting. His passion inspires me to continue learning french! i would highly recommend French Toast to anyone who wishes to learn here! Thank you, Mr. Timothée, and the entire French Toast team!

I do not know Sharon at all, who recently gave a 1 star review, but I do have a very similar story:

1) Paid for a Spanish beginners class on site at the end of August, to begin on September 13 until November 15.

2) Received a very short postponement notice only THREE DAYS before the start, on September 13 with NO OPTIONS OFFERED (screenshot 1).

3) Received a 2nd postponement notice this time only TWO DAYS before the new start, this time finally with options (screenshot 2), including a shift to an online class (which I never asked for) and 1:1 private tutoring, at a much higher price.

4) Received the offered refund almost two weeks later, but only after trying to have me sign up for a new class, even though I had long requested the refund and I had already found a different language center.

The reply to Sharon a few days ago, which says that communication could have been better, is just as true in my case.

To the Management:

1. Please improve your communication!

2. Do not postpone classes three or even two days in advance, but earlier!

3. Offer options including a full refund even in the event of a first postponement, not just after the 2nd time! Any airline even changing flight times by a mere few hours is doing this immediately.

I was drawn to your Language Center because of the overwhelmingly positive 5 star reviews, but, just as with the other person called Sharon, my experience was different.

The only saving grace was Khalisha, who was very kind, immediately replied and oversaw the refund process. She deserves 5 stars, but unfortunately not French Toast.

I took the Beginner 3 French lessons with Timothée for 2 months and they were some of the most engaging and practical language classes I’ve ever attended. His teaching style is refreshing. It’s not the usual “read the textbook and fill out the workbook” approach. Instead, he focuses on what you’ll actually use in real conversations.

Every week, we would share about our own lives and discuss current affairs entirely in French. This was incredibly effective, because we learned phrases and vocabulary that were directly relevant to us, making it far easier to remember and actually use them outside of class. It also made speaking practice feel natural and meaningful, rather than forced or scripted.

What makes Timothée’s classes even more enriching is his profound knowledge of history, etymology, and current events. He weaves these into the lessons in a way that sparks curiosity and gives deeper cultural context to the language. His ability to explain not just what to say, but why the language is the way it is, really sets him apart as a teacher. I left each class not only with better French skills, but also with new perspectives and cultural insights!

The 1-on-1 lessons were super useful to practice french conversation and receive instant feedback, especially to fix awkward phrasing. It gave me more confidence to speak fluently to natives in France! The cultural points shared by the teacher like the Parisian bouquinistes (travelling booksellers) helped me better understand the french community. An immersive experience!

I supplemented my French learning here for two years under a private tutor at the advanced level (B2~C1). It's a very unique and enriching experience that you can't get in many formal language learning institutions because they really get into not just learning the technicals of the language/rote grammar for exams but also the social, cultural perspective of it. Private lessons are very flexible/personal and student is in control of what they get from the lesson. You can tell that the teachers are very passionate and give their all into the student's learning.

Thanks to Julie, I was able to enjoy my trip to Burgundy so much. I signed up for six classes right before my trip, and she gave me practical lessons tailored just for me, which were incredibly helpful. I especially appreciated that she created a useful program focused on French for wine, which was exactly what I wanted to learn. She was also very flexible with my changing work schedule, so I managed to complete all the classes before the trip.
For now, I’ll be focusing on my wine studies, but once I’m done, I would love to take more lessons with her again.

I took a Japanese language class with Lingo after taking it with another school. The consultant ask me patiently if I knew any Japanese alphabets and when I said that I don't know, he recommended me to take a Beginner class first to first learn Hira and Kata before jumping into Elementary class. I did that and it is completely changed my perspective on learning Japanese. The other school ask us to do self revision to pick up the pace. While Lingo guide me through the intracity of Japanese alphabets system. I recommend anyone to go for Lingo if your purpose is to learn Japanese the correctly and not the casual way.

I want to say thank you very much to French Faster.
My daughter Nadya was able to catch up with her class thanks to the guidance of her tutor. Ms Zahrah was always punctual and well prepared for the class. She boosted Nadya’s confidence in the language through regular homework. I highly recommend French Faster to all parents who want success in French for their children.

How to Choose the Best French Lessons for Kids in Singapore

  • Teacher experience: Check for relevant French qualifications and experience teaching children in your child’s particular age group.
  • Learning purpose: Decide whether your child needs recreational exposure, school support, Mother Tongue-In-Lieu tuition or examination preparation.
  • Starting level: Ask how beginners, bilingual children and experienced learners are assessed before being assigned to an appropriate class.
  • Curriculum structure: Review how lessons build listening, speaking, reading, writing, pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar across progressive stages.
  • Teaching approach: Consider whether songs, games, stories, role play or structured exercises suit your child’s age and temperament.
  • Class size: Confirm the maximum group size and the amount of speaking practice, correction and individual feedback offered.
  • Language balance: Ask whether lessons use French immersion, bilingual explanations or a gradual move towards greater French usage.
  • Progress feedback: Check whether teachers provide assessments, written reports, parent updates, homework guidance or clear advancement milestones regularly.
  • Exam alignment: For assessed learners, confirm materials and practice match the relevant DELF, MOE, IGCSE or IB requirements.
  • Confidence support: Look for patient guidance that helps hesitant children speak without ordinary mistakes feeling discouraging or embarrassing.
  • Lesson format: Compare centre-based, online and private options based on your child’s concentration, independence and need for interaction.
  • Schedule fit: Choose timings that work around school, rest and family commitments without creating an exhausting weekly routine.
  • Travel demands: Consider MRT access, journey time and whether online lessons provide a more sustainable arrangement during busy school terms.
  • Trial options: Use available trial lessons or placement consultations to observe teaching pace, communication style and your child’s comfort.
  • Fee clarity: Confirm tuition fees, registration charges, memberships, books, materials, surcharges and cancellation terms before enrolment begins.
  • Long-term pathway: Consider suitable progression as your child’s confidence, proficiency and academic needs develop over the coming years.

Looking for a Home Tutor Instead?

A private tutor can suit children who need lessons shaped around a particular school requirement, examination or learning pace. One-to-one French tuition gives children more time to ask questions, practise speaking and revisit weaker areas. It can also reduce travel demands when lessons are held at home or online.

It has truly been a blessing to find Mr. Tan Tiam Teng as my son’s Chinese tutor. He is extremely knowledgeable, patient, and dedicated—qualities that have made a huge difference in my son’s learning journey. My Primary 4 son has shown remarkable improvement in his Chinese since starting lessons, and we are so grateful for the progress.

Beyond the academic results, Mr. Tan’s teaching style has built my son’s confidence and interest in the subject. He is punctual, pleasant disposition and understands what a child needs. The entire experience with Mind Flex has also been very pleasant, professional, and supportive.

Highly recommended for anyone looking for a tutor who genuinely cares and delivers excellent results

Friendly, pleasant, swift, helpful and most importantly not pushy
