Introduction

Batik painting workshops give children a hands-on introduction to colour, pattern and wax-resist art. Singapore families can choose from specialist batik studios, broader art schools, guided group sessions and programmes held at schools or other venues. Some workshops use traditional tools such as the canting, while others use child-friendly activities, prepared materials or mixed-media formats. Before booking, parents should consider age suitability, safety, instructor guidance, class size and whether materials are included. This guide covers business overviews, Google reviews, locations, prices and contact details for 10 options.

My daughter and I used Culture Pass for Kamal’s batik workshop. It was very enjoyable and educational, as Kamal has a wealth of knowledge about batik. We went home with batik pieces that we made ourselves and can wear as scarves or frame and display.

really enjoyed the batik painting class today. The instructor was patient, friendly, and explained the techniques clearly for beginners. The atmosphere was relaxing and fun, and I learned a lot about traditional batik art. I was very happy with my owl batik artwork and would highly recommend this class to anyone interested in art and culture in Singapore. Thank you for such a wonderful experience!

Went for caricature introductory workshop and it was great fun! Even though it felt rushed(learning the different facial parts), it can't be helped because it's just an introduction to it and he had to bring us through drawing of an actual caricature of one of us in class.

Kamal is friendly and approachable with decades of experience as an artist. He is very engaging and great in his craft, seeing him making the caricature come to live with a few bold strokes is so amazing!

Would highly recommend anyone who's interested in learning something new for fun!

Got a chance to see Kamal's studio and learn the basica of caricature as result of the SG Culture Pass credit.

Enjoyed Kamal's friendliness, humor, and love for his craft. While technology like A.I. might make skills like caricature obsolete, we should not lose the simple joy of artistic expression such as drawing, doodling, painting, etc.

Thank Kamal for keeping such discipline alive and sharing it with the community.

The two complimentary classes of foundational tree drawing and urban sketching is highly recommended for many beginners who have little or no background. This was given in response that the culture credits urban sketching class is not suitable for people who want to learn art in depth.

The teacher Wu is very patient, explains the strokes through words and demonstrations, and there is sufficient room for executing the techniques on the spot.

Materials are provided on the spot, trees of various shapes are practiced. Also, a few buildings and some techniques were tried out.

There is also motivation to apply the techniques and the application is doable.

However, sometimes the teacher can be really busy so it can help to remind the teacher that I am done so that the teacher doesn’t take too long to come back to me.

Also, the centre is pretty busy so they might not always reply promptly. I suggest that expanding research outside is crucial, such as pertaining to what type of markers or canvas to get etc.

Overall, I think this class is worth recommending to complete beginners and people with little background to go in depth and also have fun.

Through SG culture pass I took an incredibly enjoyable sketching class with the Visual Arts Centre. There were a couple of other attendees in the class with me and I was supervised by the attending artist instructor, Jade. She has an encouraging teaching style and made gentle tactful suggestions on how to improve my eye, how to hold the pencils, hatch lines, discern the contours of shadows, and proportion the objects in the fore and background. I was able to produce a sketch that both she and I were satisfied with! All materials were provided which made it a convenient class. The environment was air conditioned and there was classical music playing in the background. Meditative and nourishing for the soul.

Just completed an incredible creative learning journey art tour in Manila led by Jeffrey and lola, and I couldn't be more impressed!

Both of them were exceptionally knowledgeable and passionate, bringing the local art scene to life with their insights and enthusiasm. The tour was perfectly paced - we had ample time at each location to truly appreciate the artwork without feeling rushed. I particularly loved learning about the stories behind the pieces and how they beautifully reflect Filipino culture and history. Jeffrey and lola's expertise really enhanced our understanding of the contemporary art movement in the Philippines.

Whether you're an art enthusiast or simply curious about Manila's vibrant creative scene, this tour is a fantastic way to immerse yourself in the culture. I left with a much deeper appreciation for Filipino contemporary art and several new favourite artists to follow.

My family and I had a fantastic time at Ozel! The entire process of making our own batik was so engaging—from drawing with the canting to the painting and drying process. It was a treat to be able to bring our finished work home with us.

Before we started the hands-on portion, we were given an informative briefing on the history of batik. It was so interesting and we all felt like we walked away having learned so much. The instructors were also incredibly patient when explaining the steps to us, which made the experience even better. A highly recommended activity for families!

I had such a wonderful time at this batik workshop! Zakiah and her family did an amazing job explaining the different batik patterns and their meanings, which made the experience so meaningful and enriching.

What I loved most was that we didn’t just watch — we actually got to use the wax and paint our own batik piece, which was really fun and hands-on. It felt very authentic and engaging from start to finish.

It was definitely a great use of the SG culture pass, and I’d highly recommend this workshop to anyone who wants to learn more about batik while enjoying a creative and memorable experience.

How to Choose Batik Painting Workshops for Kids in Singapore

  • Batik experience: Check that the instructor teaches wax-resist processes regularly and explains their cultural context accurately.
  • Age suitability: Confirm that tools, materials, instructions and expected outcomes suit your child’s age and coordination.
  • Safety procedures: Ask how heated wax, dyes and canting tools are handled during each workshop session.
  • Teaching style: Consider whether demonstrations, guided practice or open experimentation suit your child’s confidence and independence.
  • Class size: Smaller groups can make instructor supervision and technique correction easier during practical activities.
  • Workshop level: Check whether the activity is a beginner introduction, craft session or deeper traditional-method study.
  • Creative freedom: Ask how much choice children have over motifs, colour combinations and personal design ideas.
  • Material quality: Confirm which fabric, wax, dyes, protective equipment and take-home materials are included in fees.
  • Cultural learning: Look for clear explanations of batik traditions alongside practical painting and waxing activities.
  • Session length: Choose a duration that lets your child complete each stage without feeling tired or rushed.
  • Learning environment: Consider ventilation, table space, washing facilities and supervision arrangements for art-making activities.
  • Instructor feedback: Ask whether children receive individual guidance on wax control, colour placement and finishing work.
  • Progression options: Regular learners can consider workshops covering layering, tjanting control and complex wax applications.
  • Schedule access: Compare workshop dates, booking requirements, transport convenience and private group arrangement options.
  • Fee clarity: Check whether materials, finishing, extra time, registration charges and venue costs are included.
  • Child preferences: Match the format with your child’s patience, confidence, creative interests and comfort with unfamiliar tools.

Its database includes more than 50,000 active tutors, and the agency states that it has handled over 100,000 successful cases. Tutor matching is free for families, with no agency fees. Parents can specify the student’s level, subject, location, budget, preferred timings and other requirements. MindFlex coordinators then shortlist tutor profiles for consideration. This arrangement gives families a structured way to review potential tutors while retaining control over their final selection. Home tuition may complement enrichment activities when a child also needs focused academic support, individual attention or lessons arranged around the family’s schedule.

It has truly been a blessing to find Mr. Tan Tiam Teng as my son’s Chinese tutor. He is extremely knowledgeable, patient, and dedicated—qualities that have made a huge difference in my son’s learning journey. My Primary 4 son has shown remarkable improvement in his Chinese since starting lessons, and we are so grateful for the progress.

Beyond the academic results, Mr. Tan’s teaching style has built my son’s confidence and interest in the subject. He is punctual, pleasant disposition and understands what a child needs. The entire experience with Mind Flex has also been very pleasant, professional, and supportive.

Highly recommended for anyone looking for a tutor who genuinely cares and delivers excellent results

Friendly, pleasant, swift, helpful and most importantly not pushy
