The two complimentary classes of foundational tree drawing and urban sketching is highly recommended for many beginners who have little or no background. This was given in response that the culture credits urban sketching class is not suitable for people who want to learn art in depth.

The teacher Wu is very patient, explains the strokes through words and demonstrations, and there is sufficient room for executing the techniques on the spot.

Materials are provided on the spot, trees of various shapes are practiced. Also, a few buildings and some techniques were tried out.

There is also motivation to apply the techniques and the application is doable.

However, sometimes the teacher can be really busy so it can help to remind the teacher that I am done so that the teacher doesn’t take too long to come back to me.

Also, the centre is pretty busy so they might not always reply promptly. I suggest that expanding research outside is crucial, such as pertaining to what type of markers or canvas to get etc.

Overall, I think this class is worth recommending to complete beginners and people with little background to go in depth and also have fun.

Through SG culture pass I took an incredibly enjoyable sketching class with the Visual Arts Centre. There were a couple of other attendees in the class with me and I was supervised by the attending artist instructor, Jade. She has an encouraging teaching style and made gentle tactful suggestions on how to improve my eye, how to hold the pencils, hatch lines, discern the contours of shadows, and proportion the objects in the fore and background. I was able to produce a sketch that both she and I were satisfied with! All materials were provided which made it a convenient class. The environment was air conditioned and there was classical music playing in the background. Meditative and nourishing for the soul.

Just completed an incredible creative learning journey art tour in Manila led by Jeffrey and lola, and I couldn't be more impressed!

Both of them were exceptionally knowledgeable and passionate, bringing the local art scene to life with their insights and enthusiasm. The tour was perfectly paced - we had ample time at each location to truly appreciate the artwork without feeling rushed. I particularly loved learning about the stories behind the pieces and how they beautifully reflect Filipino culture and history. Jeffrey and lola's expertise really enhanced our understanding of the contemporary art movement in the Philippines.

Whether you're an art enthusiast or simply curious about Manila's vibrant creative scene, this tour is a fantastic way to immerse yourself in the culture. I left with a much deeper appreciation for Filipino contemporary art and several new favourite artists to follow.

Zeniko is a very structured art class. They provide art lessons involving multiple mediums and conduct certification exams for all levels. The teacher is very approachable and encouraging, my 8 year old child has learnt a lot of techniques and her works in the past year have been stunning. The class is enjoyable, interactive and does not have a formal/serious setup , so that students actually love to go to the class. Strongly recommend!

I am Rajeshwari. I can proudly say that I am a student, parent and a teacher in Zeniko Creatives. First of all my hearty congratulations Aparna for the new place. I started my journey with Zeniko as a parent Since 2019. Then I started learning from her to explore my art knowledge. I started from pencil shading and slowly explored oil pastels, water colour, acrylic, oil paint and charcoal and still learning other mediums. Aparna appreciated me and gave an opportunity to teach kids. I love to work with little kids who are all always a magic. Thank you so much for everything once again Aparna. Aldrich has been with Ink Fusion for two years and he enjoys and look forward to every lesson. From basic to in-depth Manga drawing techniques, I can see my son improve tremendously in this two years. Ink Fusion is unlike any commercial manga learning centre, they provide other learning opportunities that is out of the scope of drawing. I remember Mr Chia was showing Aldrich how to do a voice over animation even we didn’t sign up for it because he wanted the kids to gain more exposure. Thanks Ink Fusion !

After every lesson she has shared with me the story of each of her art piece. The different techniques she has learnt in the lessons are evident in her drawings & paintings. Thanks to Stephanie for her patience and guidance.
My boys have been taking art lessons at My Art Pencil for 5-6 years. They enjoy going for their weekly lessons and we can see that their drawing skills improve over the years. My kids told me that there will be story telling relating to their lessons that day which I feel make the lesson interesting. Different drawing techniques are also taught .

Teachers are patient and responsible. Also, as groups are kept small, kids gets enough attention and guidance from the teachers as well. Overall, thumbs up for My Art Pencil.

My kid has been with My Art Pencil for about 4 years and enjoys attending the classes there.
The teachers are friendly and patient with a strong passion for art.

The theme for each lesson is usually based on story books, festivals/ celebrations or events happening in Singapore, attractions in Singapore, hobbies, feelings, imagination and many more.

The class will start with a story or introduction to the theme of the week, followed by the artwork. The kids learn various art techniques using tools such as water colours, markers, oil pastel, soft pastel, etc.

For example, in line with the current Van Gogh exhibition in Singapore, the kids were told a story of "Katie and the Starry Night" and a short introduction to Vincent Van Gogh, followed by painting "The Starry Night".

In a way, the kids are not only learning art but also building up language through story-telling and interactions as well as gaining general knowledge.

Highly recommended 😊

How to Choose a Comic Drawing Class for Your Child

  • Teacher experience: Check that instructors can teach comic techniques clearly to children in your child’s age group.
  • Course emphasis: Look for lessons that cover illustration, character development and storytelling, rather than copying existing characters.
  • Skill suitability: Choose a course that matches your child’s drawing ability, creative confidence and previous comic experience.
  • Age grouping: Check that projects, instructions and lesson pacing suit each developmental stage.
  • Class size: Ask how many students share each instructor and how feedback is given.
  • Teaching style: Consider whether demonstrations, guided practice or open-ended exploration better suits how your child learns.
  • Creative freedom: Children should develop original characters and stories alongside essential drawing foundations.
  • Technical coverage: Compare teaching in proportion, anatomy, expression, perspective, backgrounds, lettering, colour and sequential storytelling.
  • Media format: Decide whether your child prefers traditional materials, digital illustration tools or both.
  • Project outcomes: Ask whether learners complete comic strips, storyboards, character sheets or longer stories.
  • Progress pathway: Consider levels, feedback, assessments and advanced options for sustained development over time.
  • Portfolio support: Confirm what preparation and project guidance are included for SOTA, DSA or art-school applications.
  • Learning environment: Visit the studio where possible to assess supervision, workspace organisation, materials and your child’s comfort.
  • Schedule access: Compare travel time, weekly timings, online availability and missed-lesson policies before committing.
  • Fee clarity: Confirm tuition, registration charges, materials, devices, trials and required course commitments before enrolment.

It has truly been a blessing to find Mr. Tan Tiam Teng as my son’s Chinese tutor. He is extremely knowledgeable, patient, and dedicated—qualities that have made a huge difference in my son’s learning journey. My Primary 4 son has shown remarkable improvement in his Chinese since starting lessons, and we are so grateful for the progress.

Beyond the academic results, Mr. Tan’s teaching style has built my son’s confidence and interest in the subject. He is punctual, pleasant disposition and understands what a child needs. The entire experience with Mind Flex has also been very pleasant, professional, and supportive.

Highly recommended for anyone looking for a tutor who genuinely cares and delivers excellent results

Friendly, pleasant, swift, helpful and most importantly not pushy
