A palette knife workshop for kids gives children a tactile way to explore colour, texture and composition beyond conventional brush painting. Singapore families can choose dedicated palette knife sessions, broader art programmes that include knife art, and providers offering related textured-painting activities. Age requirements vary, so parents should check whether a workshop is designed for children or needs adult supervision. Class size, materials, teaching style and project difficulty can also affect the experience. This guide compares 10 palette knife workshops and related art centres in Singapore, with overviews, Google reviews, locations, prices and contact details.

I had the pleasure of working with the team at Strokearts, and I must say, their art classes for all ages are truly exceptional. The sessions are engaging, inclusive, and tailored to suit different skill levels, making it an ideal space for both beginners and experienced artists. The community is warm and welcoming, and the instructors are dedicated to fostering creativity. Overall, I highly recommend Strokearts to anyone looking for a supportive and inspiring environment to explore their artistic side.
Strokearts is a fabulous place to learn any art you desire to learn. I'm an adult currently learning Madhubani art and Lippon art from Shivali, and it has been a wonderful experience. Shivali is an excellent teacher - patient, knowledgeable and truly passionate about the art forms. I really appreciate how also she shares the background and history behind each art, which makes the learning even more meaningful. Highly recommended for anyone interested in any art form .
My 13yo child had a fantastic experience with the holiday art program! The 8-hr acrylic painting session on an A1 canvas was incredibly fun and inspiring. It was wonderful to see my child fully engaged, exploring colours, textures and techniques with confidence. The instructor was patient and encouraging, creating a supportive space for creativity to flourish. Our child came home proud of her artwork and excited to paint more - highly recommend this program for budding young artists!
I thoroughly enjoyed doing my koi fish madhubani painting under Shivali’s guidance. From the time we discussed what to draw and how to draw, Shivali was really open to my ideas and that’s motivated me to get this right to perfection. She lets the student share what they want before telling them what to do. I enjoyed every bit of color in my painting and was so satisfied to bring it to life. The little details to the color combinations, the chit chats we had, it was a fulfilling experience. Many more to go!!!
Shivali Mathur is a wonderful artist and art educator. Her knowledge of her subject is wide and deep. I have been to many of her art workshops and she has never failed to make it memorable for me. Would recommend her workshops and regular art courses to anyone who wants to enhance their skills.
Strokearts is spreading love for Arts for young and old alike. They are strong in Indian traditional art form and abstract too. Shivali and team inspire students and ignite love and passion fuelling the creativity and cognitive skills of learners. Wish that they continue spreading the love and joy for Art!

I have been painting at this studio for the past 1.5 years, and it has been such a wonderful place to explore and develop my artistic skills. I’ve had the opportunity to experiment with different mediums, including acrylic, oil, watercolour, and even gouache! I’ve also had the chance to join quite a few palette knife painting workshops, which have allowed me to explore new techniques and expand my artistic horizons.
The studio owner, Jae, has such a cheerful and positive personality. She is a joy to be around and learn from, and her hilarious jokes always make every session something to look forward to. With her guidance and encouragement, I’ve been able to take on more complex artworks that I would never have dreamed of creating just a few years ago.
I was recommended to Artify by another parent who told me that her kid is fidgety and requires an environment which is not structured and teachers who can understand and be patient. She didn’t do well in another art school and they found Artify which turned out great. Our experience is positive as well. My 5-year old kid’s first acrylic painting at a 1.5 hour trial session blew my breath away (note that he has never taken such classes before). Not only can Teacher Prisha guide him on a technical level within a short amount of time, she is also patient and allows space for mistakes without over-correcting the child. She explained that even though the proportions may not be right, sometimes there is no need to correct it because over-correcting a child would lead to the child losing confidence and being unable to be creative and produce their own art in future.
Owner Teacher Jae explained that the philosophy of the school is child-led. The child leads the subject and the teachers follow their journey to guide them. The art teachers here also have full time jobs and they come here to teach out of passion. This can bring a different perspective of life to art and to teaching.
They also have interesting holiday programmes such as linocut printing which introduces young children to different art mediums and forms and techniques.
I had such a fun time at Artify Studio! The place feels cozy and welcoming, with plenty of refreshments and the instructor, Jae, is friendly and patient. She guides you along if you are feeling stuck but also gives you the freedom to paint in your own style, which I loved. Everything you need (canvas, paint, brushes etc) is provided, so you can just relax and enjoy the session.
I walked away not only with a painting I’m proud of, but also feeling refreshed and inspired. Definitely recommend Artify Studio if you’re looking for a chill, creative way to spend a few hours!
Love the experience. I came alone just to try out their guided art jam session. Everyone in the class seems to know one another lol, some came with their friends, others are probably long time students, etc. It was my first time going for such an activity. I didn't have any experience in painting whatsoever haha, just wanted to try something different. The instructor was quick and very clear in her direction to create the artwork. I was left to do the artwork alone, and I truly like how I have my own space to work on the art, no pressure. (it's not like a tutor will sit beside you while you draw, lol). I got lost sometimes when I completed certain steps in the artwork and had to wait for the instructor because one instructor jumps around several students, but that's alright for me. Canvas and Paints were provided, including what colour to use etc, so that's worth the money. I was asked to choose a reference to follow in creating the artwork. Each reference requires different kinds of technique (lol didn't know that at first), I ended up creating the artwork using a sponge to make the background effect, which was cool. The whole session was 2hr 30mins but I exceeded slightly more than that, haha. Thankfully we're not forced to stop working lol. I definitely recommend coming to try some art painting, and it is always good to ask how the artwork is created first before deciding what to paint so you get the rough idea of the painting process (and challenges), and also ask what canvas size is available before you start (I was given the largest one lol). I got to bring back my artwork but now I have no idea where to put it, haha. One advice for first timer, pls wear socks or use their slippers, no shoes allowed lol - I didn't know that.
My 4yr old daughter has been going for art classes here since about a year ago and she's really benefited from it! I see she's picked up the basics of art quite well.
The patient and passionate teachers made it easy and fun for the kids to learn, breaking down the methods into easily understood steps. We get to bring home a 'masterpiece' almost every other week.
Super lovely art studio at Textile Center. The instructor was very patient teaching us how to draw step by step and helping us when we made some oopsy mistakes 🙂
It was truly a great experience. I would definitely come back and try other paintings 🙂
My first time trying out the palate knife painting. It was evening class but Jae our instructor was very vibrant, enthusiastic n humorous without being extremely extra. Good enough energy for us who came after whole day work 😀 I also enjoyed her history telling about acrylic paint. Interesting! Jae explained all the step by step techniques slowly n with patience. Truly enjoyed it. Will sign up for more workshops. Great location n great price. Thank u!

Artgrain is a Singapore art school with structured programmes for learners from age two and a half through adulthood. Its pathways include foundational drawing, painting, creative development, clay and digital art, although a dedicated children’s palette knife course is not specified. Small, individualised classes focus on observation, technical foundations, personal expression and close teacher guidance. Older students can prepare for Visual Art DSA, SOTA, N-Level, O-Level, A-Level and IB applications or assessments. Established in 2010, Artgrain has six listed branches and also runs holiday, school and corporate workshops that can be customised around specific themes and learning goals.
Why Parents Choose Artgrain
Artgrain has provided structured art education in Singapore since 2010.
Teachers include graduates from NAFA, LASALLE, SMU and Rhode Island.
Small classes support individual guidance across age-based programmes.
Selected programmes have one teacher for six or seven students.
Portfolio learners receive individual mentorship for DSA and SOTA preparation.
Artgrain reported 23 confirmed SOTA offers among 2019 portfolio students.
Its 2024 cultural-centre exhibition reportedly welcomed over 1,500 visitors.
Six branches offer options across several parts of Singapore.
My daughter has been with Artgrain for more than a year now. She started at the Bukit Timah branch and has recently moved to the Jurong East branch.
She has been learning from Tr Jiahui, and we are really happy with her. Tr Jiahui is very engaging and encouraging, and she always gives my daughter the space to express her own creativity. I can see that my daughter has become more confident in her drawings and, most importantly, she really enjoys going for her art class.
We also appreciate that even after moving to the Jurong East branch, she can continue learning with Tr Jiahui. It has been a really good experience for us so far, and we are happy to continue with Artgrain. Thank you, Tr Jiahui, for making art so enjoyable for her! 😊
Since starting her art classes a few months ago, my daughter has grown so much under Teacher Jai Hui’s guidance. Teacher Jai Hui is remarkably patient and supportive. My daughter truly loves the lessons and eagerly counts down the days to each class!
My daughter has been with Artgrain for almost a year, and I really like the way their classes are held. Although there is a structured syllabus, the teachers highly encourage creativity, so students have more input for their creations, rather than producing the exact same pieces of art as other students. The children have the chance to come up with their own ideas based on their preferences and opinions.
Different mediums are used, and the students will have occasional lessons that let them try other kinds of craft, so the students do get a range of experiences.
The lessons are flexible, as students are not limited to specific class timings by age, so picking a class timing that suits your schedule is easy. Arranging makeups when your child is sick is also very simple and non-restrictive, which I highly appreciate as a parent.
For anyone looking for art classes for their child, I would highly recommend Artgrain and Teacher Jiahui who teaches at the Jurong branch.
My kids have been attending Artgrain, and we've had a really positive experience. The teachers are patient, encouraging, and create a fun environment where the children genuinely enjoy learning art. It's been wonderful to see their creativity and confidence grow over time.
The lessons are engaging, and the staff are always friendly and welcoming. We're happy with our experience and would definitely recommend Artgrain to parents looking for quality art classes for their children.

Art 🎨 is always a great healing n learning spot ..🧡✌️💞❤️🩹 Very pleasant n joyful moments over there ,I dint expect when I go during my lowest point turn out to be very comforting milestones at my art pieces ,n all 3 teachers I hv been learning n much guided with...n very big thanks n appreciation to staff Star ,who had been most encouraging since Day 1 n Genevieve on weekends...both really give value added service , from planning learning duration, supporting with availability on timings to that very emotional support...Keep going n I would certainly be most happy to share this outlet for else learning place 💜💗💕♥️💕
7 and 3 year old children trying art jamming for the first time. Staff was very helpful and friendly from the get-go of WhatsApp booking to actual painting activity done in-store. Peaceful place to try art painting on a bear, canvas or tote bag. 2hr session.
Tip: Don't go for a complicated artwork so u have more time to paint and touch up. Downside was that we had to draw our own pics and that took up an hr. There's no guidance so be mindful to prep your artwork before you reach there.
Feedback to staff about having template drawings in future so kids can manage easier.
Otherwise, generally a good activity to harness patience and colours mixing skills for your children.
Truly enjoyed my art lessons especially with the friendly n knowledgeable n helpful teacher Kwan, who constantly went above n beyond in providing valuablr advises, tools n assistance!! Signed up 2 packages of 10 lessons each and could have continued longer if I'm not moving out of the PLQ neighbourhood. The studio felt very welcoming n friendly with the only staff, Star who is very helpful n cheerful! Highly recommended for anyone who is interested in taking up art lessons!

I really appreciated the attention to detail and the effort put into ensuring a great customer experience.
Highly recommended, and I will definitely be returning again. Thank you, Artpop, for the excellent service! 😊
Such a fun excellent experience! Highly recommend it either for adults or with kids. I went with my son on a Sunday morning - booked it on a Friday afternoon. Highly responsive with confirmation and instructions. The crew is fantastic with kids and very helpful throughout the session. Ben was also very proactive with helping us capture pictures throughout the session which I genuinely appreciate since as a mother, I hardly have any photos WITH my son.
Great experience! My children had so much fun creating their own personal art pieces. The facilitators are very helpful and make everyone feel welcome. I was so surprised that my child managed to get over her fear of balloons here! Absolute five stars.
I happen to chance upon Art Pop while looking for a unique way to celebrate my girl’s 10th birthday, since she loves arts & crafts — and it turned out to be such an amazing experience!
Ben & Laureen were incredibly warm, helpful, and engaging throughout the session. The moment we arrived, they entertained the girls so well and made everyone feel comfortable and excited! The girls had so much fun creating, laughing & enjoying themselves.
Thank you for making her birthday celebration such a memorable one. Highly recommend Art Pop for a fun and creative experience for families! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Brought our daughters here this morning during school holidays for some ART POP fun ! Ben and Laureen were very engaging, getting the girls excited right from the door step! It was a fun experience. The interns & staffs are all very friendly and helpful. Although the workshop is 2 hours, I ended up taking 4 hours to complete and they did not rush me nor mention about the time at all. Without the help of the staffs, I would not have completed this amazing art. Definitely recommend people to come try.
Had a great introductory session using watercolour, our instructor Ashley was very patient and concise in her explanation. She coached us and gave us valuable demos without spoon-feeding us. ☻
Good quality art supplies were provided (even an ipad for image reference) in this nice beautiful art space.
It was a relaxing session for us and great that we could use our culture pass credits. Interested to try the tingkat painting & art jamming next round.
Tried palette knife painting for the first time, together with my husband. It was a very fun experience. Thank you to Sage Artelier at Sin Ming for having us, giving us so much space, time and patience while we explore ourselves with self expression and creativity. The teachers were very friendly and helpful, giving you just enough tips and confidence to wing it and go with whatever feels right.
Chanced upon this clay art session with Sage Artelier through Seek Sophie's website. My daughter wanted to do pottery art and hence I searched through google for such workshops that are suitable for kids. Though this clay workshop does not involve a wheel spinner, I think my daugher still enjoyed the craft session. Art space was lovely and cosy. Facilitator Ashley was so patient with my daughter. She guided and assisted her very well throughout. Appreciate the attention dedicated to young kids like my daughter. The art space was lively with children celebrating birthday through art jamming and other students doing their individual art pieces. All the best and keep up the amazing service and dedication!
Had a leisurely 2 hour glass painting session at Sage Artelier. The staff, Ashley, was very helpful, cheery and patient.
They helped with some of the more complicated techniques and touched up the artwork at the end - although I’m sure that’s subject to the crowdedness.
The atmosphere was great with the soft background music as well. Would recommend!

Amazing experience i got! The instructors helped me with my product and i was satisfied with my end product. Would recommend to others to come here if they want to do artsy stuff
I really love this art jamming experience. The guided session by Eden was totally worth the price for she helps me blend the Colors really well , understanding what I would like to paint and we co -create together. She will outline partial for me & allow me to take over to complete the art piece of my own. I had learn painting when I was a young kid but had not touched the brushes for decades. Really loved the music at background that makes it therapeutic too. Not to mention the rainy weather adds on to good atmosphere. Healing at its best as I took this time as a break from my SAHM duties. 💟
Phillip and Angela have been the most wonderful people. Listening to their stories, admiring the art and having them guide us through the process of painting. We thoroughly enjoyed the company and the guidance. I look forward to going back again.
This was my first time trying art jamming and it would definitely not be the last!
Thanks to my bestie who booked our art jamming session with Artist Tique Co Art Studio, I got to try my hand on canvas painting which was really fun and rewarding at the same time. Never would I imagined that I could sketch and paint a portrait of pretty flowers all by myself. This was also made possible with the guidance of Philip, who gave us tips on how to start painting our artwork.
“Hey, did you know you overrun for one whole hour?” asked my bestie after the session. I felt so embarrassed and apologetic as I was totally engrossed in the world of painting my pretty flowers, omg! A million thanks to Philip for being so patient and quietly waiting for the OCD me to complete my painting! 🙆🏻♀️
I came to know Mag Wong from an art course I took from her. I learnt from her valuable art skills and knowledge, particularly in mix-media art. It is an eye opener for me. I remember the lesson from her Botanic Art. At the start I have no idea of what I'll do. Grabbing and selecting from the pile of waste cloths, from that time, a picture started showing in my mind. From then onwards, with her guidance, a beautiful artwork was born. Matching the artwork with the indoor plants is a wonderful decorative for my house. I highly recommend this Botanic Art lesson to all of you. Thank you, Mag.

How to Choose the Best Palette Knife Class for Your Child
Age suitability: Confirm the stated age requirement, as some textured-art workshops are intended only for teenagers or adults.
Instructor experience: Ask about the teacher’s practical art background and experience guiding children at your child’s developmental stage.
Teaching approach: Consider whether the session offers step-by-step instruction, open exploration or a balanced combination of both approaches.
Technique coverage: Check whether children will learn spreading, layering, scraping, colour mixing and safe handling of palette knives.
Material safety: Ask what type of knife, paint, texture medium and protective equipment will be supplied during the workshop.
Adult supervision: Clarify whether younger children need an accompanying parent and how actively the adult should participate.
Class attention: Smaller groups can provide more opportunities for individual demonstrations, corrections and help with difficult texture techniques.
Experience level: Choose an introductory project for beginners and more open-ended composition work for children with prior painting experience.
Creative freedom: Look for a format that teaches technique while allowing children to make meaningful choices about colour and composition.
Project format: Compare one-off workshops with recurring courses according to whether your child wants exploration or sustained skill development.
Session length: Select a duration that matches your child’s concentration, stamina and comfort when using unfamiliar art tools.
Studio environment: Consider table space, ventilation, cleanliness and whether the setting suits children who prefer quieter working conditions.
Progress feedback: For recurring lessons, ask how instructors explain improvement, record milestones or update parents about developing artistic skills.
Portfolio goals: Older children preparing applications may need structured drawing and composition support beyond a single textured-painting activity.
Schedule access: Review travel time, public-transport access, weekend availability and policies for rescheduling missed classes.
Total costs: Check whether quoted fees include paints, canvas, texture paste, protective equipment, registration and optional framing charges.
