Free Request For Tuition

Finding the right Primary 2 Chinese tuition can feel like a real challenge. At this stage, many children are still learning Hanyu Pinyin, building basic vocabulary, and making sense of simple comprehension passages. Some can recognise characters but struggle to form sentences, while others freeze when asked to speak Mandarin at home. If English is the main language used in your household, this is very common. This guide helps Singapore parents compare Primary 2 Chinese tuition options by looking at teaching style, class size, pricing, and locations, so you can choose a learning environment that makes Chinese feel more manageable and enjoyable for your child.

Key Takeaways

  • Choosing the best Primary 2 Chinese tuition depends on whether your child needs foundation building, speaking practice, or closer individual guidance.
  • Effective lower primary tuition should focus on interactive vocabulary building, oral practice, and steady encouragement rather than excessive drilling.
  • Practical factors such as travel time, branch locations, class sizes, and budget matter just as much as a centre’s reputation.

MindFlex – Your Best Platform for Primary 2 Chinese Home Tuition

MindFlex - Your Best Platform for Primary 2 Chinese Home Tuition

Overview of Business

MindFlex Tuition Agency is a home tuition matching platform that connects parents with private tutors across Singapore. If your Primary 2 child is struggling in a group setting, this personalised service can be a practical alternative. Instead of following one fixed classroom pace, the agency helps families find private tutors for home-based or online lessons. This can suit P2 children who need more time with Hanyu Pinyin, word recognition, and simple comprehension. Parents can request a part-time tutor, full-time tutor, or ex/current MOE teacher based on budget, schedule, and location, which makes the search process simpler when learning gaps start to show.

Why Parents Choose MindFlex?

Many parents turn to MindFlex when they feel their child needs more individual attention than a crowded class can offer. For a Primary 2 pupil, one-to-one home tuition creates a comfortable space to read aloud, practise Mandarin, and correct mistakes without pressure from classmates. The matching service is free for clients, and the coordinators are available throughout the week to help families find a suitable tutor quickly. It is also convenient for parents who want to avoid extra travel after school.

My elder daughter has been attending classes at Yu Cai since P2 and is now in P5. The center has been very accommodating in arranging the same timing and teacher for her, which we truly appreciate.

Sun Lao Shi (孙老师) has been consistent and committed in teaching, always keeping me updated on my daughter’s progress. I have seen her grades remain steady since P3, and I am confident that with Lao Shi’s guidance, she will be able to maintain her results for PSLE too.

Because of the positive experience and results, I have also enrolled my younger daughter in Yu Cai. I believe both my girls will continue to benefit greatly from the nurturing and structured learning environment provided here.

My daughter has been with Yu Cai Edu Center for almost 3 years and she loves it. The teacher is very understanding and encouraging. We are a non Chinese family so it’s difficult for us to help her with the spelling but because of the spelling test at the center my daughter has grown tremendously under the guidance and support of teachers .
The exercises are thoughtfully designed.
The teachers are dedicated to each child's academic and character development.

the teachers here are kind, very committed and do their best to help us with any questions we have. with my chem tutor's -ms low's- help, i was able to go from a failing student to getting an A2 in O levels. despite joining the class last-minute, when O levels was just around the corner, she put in effort by texting me frequently to see if i understood the topics well and asnwered any questions i had for her. she made sure i understood earlier concepts by offering lesson videos which helped give me a deeper and clearer understanding as well as offered additional lessons to help catch up with the other students. she ensures that her students keep up well with the class by randomly calling on them to answer questions, and also texts us long messages to brief us on O levels and post-secondary education, so that we know what to expect. (she even held a Q&A session about tertiary education). she occasionally went through JC-level questions related to sec 4 topics so that we could have a deeper understanding about the sec 4 topic, and also know what to expect in JC chemistry.

3. Yanzi Mandarin

3. Yanzi Mandarin

Overview of Business

Founded in 1997, Yanzi Mandarin is a specialist Chinese tuition provider known for dedicated language programmes from lower primary upwards. For parents researching Primary 2 Chinese tuition, Yanzi Mandarin stands out because it separates early foundation work from upper-level exam preparation. This is reassuring for families who want their P2 child to strengthen Hanyu Pinyin, character recognition, and simple writing without heavy exam pressure. Yanzi Mandarin is also experienced in supporting children from English-speaking homes. With classes capped at six students and both in-centre and online options, it offers a flexible and closely guided learning experience.

Why Parents Choose Yanzi Mandarin?

Parents often pick Yanzi Mandarin because of its gentle, child-focused approach. The lower primary curriculum gives attention to basic character recognition and oral skills, which suits children who struggle to express themselves in Mandarin. The class size of six students gives shy learners more room to speak up and read aloud. Families from English-speaking backgrounds also value the bilingual bridging support, which can make lessons feel less overwhelming.

I used to consistently fail Chinese in Secondary 3 until my senior recommended that I join Yanzi. After joining Yanzi, my scores improved drastically, and I began scoring at least an A2 in every exam.
I find Yanzi effective because the materials the teachers use are very concise and straight to the point. The teachers are not only strict about the quality of our work, but they also care about their students’ wellbeing. Whenever a student falls behind, the teacher makes sure that he or she catches up with the rest of the class. Even if it means sacrificing her rest time, the teacher will always go the extra mile to help her students.
I remember that as my Chinese O Levels drew nearer, I was extremely nervous and had little confidence that I would do well. However, my Yanzi teacher constantly encouraged me and reminded me that she believed in me, which motivated me to keep going. During that period, I would often text my teachers and visit the centre several times a week to submit practice papers. Despite her busy schedule, my teacher still marked all my work and gave me detailed feedback, including tips and strategies to handle different types of essays and Paper 2 questions.
Another thing I like about Yanzi Tuition Centre is its small class size, which makes it much easier for students to speak up and ask questions.
All in all, I would definitely recommend Yanzi Tuition Centre.

I joined Yanzi Chinese Tuition in Secondary 3, when I was really struggling with my Chinese and only scoring around a C5. With the patient guidance of the teachers and their dedication, I was able to improve steadily, and eventually achieved a B3 for my O-Levels!
The teachers are very caring and always willing to explain concepts clearly, no matter how many times I asked. The notes and learning materials they provide are extremely useful, well-structured, and make it so much easier to understand and apply what I’ve learned.

I joined Yanzi Chinese Tuition just a month ago, and the progress I’ve made has been remarkable—my scores have jumped from 35/70 to consistently above 55/70. The tuition is extremely well-structured and focused on helping students excel specifically in the O-Level Chinese syllabus. The materials provided are of outstanding quality, including in-depth notes, carefully selected vocabulary lists, top-scoring model essays, and step-by-step guidance on how to approach each component of the exam, from comprehension and summary to composition and oral. These resources are regularly updated and aligned with the latest exam trends, making it easy to follow and revise efficiently. The teachers are not only highly qualified but also genuinely passionate about teaching; they go the extra mile to ensure every student keeps up, often staying back after class to offer individual support and clarify doubts. Their feedback is always constructive and personalised, helping me understand exactly where and how to improve. The classroom environment is another strong point—it is calm, focused, and respectful, yet still friendly and encouraging, which makes learning much more effective. Overall, Yanzi Chinese Tuition strikes a rare balance between academic rigour and student support, and I would highly recommend it to any student who is serious about improving their Chinese grades and gaining real confidence in the subject.

4. HCL Education Group

4. HCL Education Group

Overview of Business

Established in 2006, HCL Education Group is a Chinese specialist in Singapore with an extensive network of learning centres. For families seeking Primary 2 Chinese tuition, HCL offers dedicated lower primary programmes built around early language development. Rather than relying on a single teaching style, the centre uses specific techniques for picture composition, oral communication, and reading comprehension. This can help P2 students who are beginning to face more structured school tasks but still need clear support. Backed by a large team of full-time teachers, HCL provides consistent lesson delivery across branches and a more specialist Chinese learning environment.

Why Parents Choose HCL Education Group?

Parents choose HCL because of its strong reputation, specialist focus, and convenient branch network. The dedicated Primary 2 syllabus is suitable for children who are still developing independent reading skills, while the centre’s technique-driven methods help make oral and comprehension tasks feel more manageable. Families who want a Chinese-focused environment, rather than a general tuition provider, may find HCL appealing.

HCL is one of the better cl tuition i have seen so far.the lessons are conducted in a structured way and there are times when students are required to use critical thinking and techniques taught in order to score well.the teachers there are very hardworking and all of them are experienced cl teachers.but the reason this is 4 stars is because the lessons can be quite demanding and hw submissions when I was in primary sch was quite demanding to me also.but otherwise quite good and relatively cheap tuition available compared to other cp tuitions

Zhang Juan Laoshi has been coaching my son Yikang since P4. She is a very responsible tutor who will meet me after class or call to update me on his progress. She presents a realistic reflection of his work and marks his compositions steadily. Knowing that he needs more help in comprehension, she provides extra consultation sessions by going through the extra comprehension exercises he did at home. During PSLE oral preparations, the class could also come an hour earlier to practise oral. She is really a dedicated tutor and he is lucky to learn under her guidance and achieved AL2 for Chinese and Merit for Higher Mother Tongue in the 2025 PSLE.

5. Jiang Education Centre

5. Jiang Education Centre

Overview of Business

Jiang Education Centre, established in 1995, is a long-running Chinese specialist offering programmes from preschool to secondary levels. For parents searching for Primary 2 Chinese tuition, its dedicated Primary 2 Reinforcement Course is especially relevant. Instead of pushing children too quickly into advanced work, the course divides lesson time between reading comprehension, simple composition, and oral training. This supports P2 pupils who can recognise words but struggle to form sentences or understand short passages. With several branches in residential areas, Jiang remains a practical option for families who want specialist support in a classroom setting.

Why Parents Choose Jiang Education Centre?

Parents choose Jiang because its classes are designed around how lower primary children learn a language. The lessons combine writing, visual aids, discussion, and oral practice instead of relying only on worksheets. This can suit children who are losing interest in Mandarin due to spelling stress. The centre’s long presence in Singapore also gives many families confidence when choosing a primary Chinese tuition centre.

My daughter joined Jiang Education in July 2023. Before enrolling, she could only read about 20% of the words in a passage. Just three months later, she was able to recognise around 80% of the words and read with much more confidence.

She also attended the June 2024 holiday oral class, as she lacked confidence in her oral test. To our surprise, she scored full marks!

Huge thanks to Liu Laoshi, Fang Laoshi, and Chen Laoshi for their patience, encouragement, and dedication. We’re truly grateful for the support from such a committed team. Highly recommended!

I would like to share some feedback regarding my recent experience at Jiang, as I believe it’s important for prospective parents to be aware of the services provided.

Unfortunately, I encountered several issues that left me quite disappointed.

1. **Receptionist Service:** When I visited to settle my child’s tuition fee, I experienced poor service from the receptionist. Although I was first in line, the receptionist prioritized individuals who were behind me in the queue. It took a bystander to point out that I should be served first, which was quite frustrating and reflected a lack of professionalism.

2. **Communication Issues:** I also faced challenges when trying to communicate via WhatsApp. My messages went unanswered until I called directly, which made me feel neglected as a parent. It seems that inquiries are only addressed during payment processing, which is concerning.

3. **Makeup Classes Policy:** When my child was unable to attend due to illness and provided a valid medical certificate, I was disheartened by the immediate response from the teacher, 刘老师, stating that there would be no makeup classes available. This felt dismissive, especially given the circumstances and that exam is approaching. Although I escalated the issue and received a better explanation regarding the teacher’s schedule, I was ultimately told that no makeup classes would be offered, despite valid reasons for absence.

4. **Lack of Response to Offset Suggestion:** Additionally, I had offered the suggestion that my child's absences be offset against the upcoming term fee. Unfortunately, this suggestion went unanswered, further highlighting the lack of engagement and responsiveness from the staff.

I hope this feedback encourages the management to improve their customer service and communication. It's crucial for parents to feel supported and heard, especially in educational settings. If you are considering enrolling your child here, I recommend being cautious and ensuring that you fully understand their policies and how they handle such situations.

Update to your response as of 21 Aug 2024
1. Thank you for your response.
2. While I acknowledge the receptionist's apology during our phone call, attributing delays to her age does not adequately address the need for efficient service. Moreover, she did not appear to be elderly. We are just highlighting the issues and challenges we faced, emphasizing the need for all staff to be trained to manage customer flow effectively and recognize who is next in line.
3. The main point is the communication and center policy issues. I appreciate your suggestion to call directly, which I did. However, it's frustrating that queries unrelated to fees are often overlooked. I've noticed that WhatsApp messages concerning fees receive immediate attention, while other inquiries seem to go unanswered and no call back from the centre either. This inconsistency is disappointing, and I believe all concerns should be treated with equal importance and urgency.
4. Regarding the makeup class policy, the receipt clearly states that replacement classes are on Wednesdays and Thursdays. However, there was no prior notification of the policy change, and simply applying the new policy without consideration for our specific case is unfair and unsuitable for a Primary 3 student who requires adult support. I remain concerned about my child's situation, especially since they missed a class due to illness, documented by a medical certificate. The sudden policy change is unacceptable. Due to their scheduled class being on the last day of the week, it's impossible for my child to join a subsequent class. We have requested a replacement class from the teacher, the receptionist, and the principal, but to no avail.
5. I strongly believe we have the right to seek an adjustment for the missed class fees based on the written conditions on the receipt. I stand by my request for compensation through an offset.

We are incredibly thankful to THLS. My daughter scored AL1 for her PSLE Chinese 🎉🏆 and we are so proud of her achievement. She has been with THLS since Primary 4, and it has truly made a difference in her learning journey.

We tried other Chinese enrichment centres before, but we definitely prefer THLS. The lessons are structured, engaging and very exam-focused. We were especially impressed that the school managed to spot both the Compo and Oral questions!!! That gave my daughter a lot of confidence going into the exam.

A special thank you to Teacher Yu Zhen ❤️ who has been so patient and kind. My daughter really loves her classes and always feels encouraged and supported. The positive environment makes a big difference.

She is now continuing with THLS in Secondary 1 and is still very happy there 😊 Highly recommended to parents looking for a strong and supportive Chinese enrichment programme.

7. Edufirst Learning Centre

7. Edufirst Learning Centre

Overview of Business

EduFirst Learning Centre, established in 2010, is a multi-subject tuition provider with a broad network of branches across Singapore. For parents considering Primary 2 Chinese tuition, EduFirst stands out for its small-group learning model, with classes capped at 4 to 8 students. This can be less intimidating for younger children and makes it easier for them to ask questions and participate in Mandarin. Its teaching materials are MOE-aligned and designed to address areas such as character writing, oral confidence, and sentence building. Physical and online classes also give families added flexibility.

Why Parents Choose Edufirst Learning Centre?

Parents often choose EduFirst because the small classes allow stronger individual attention. For a Primary 2 child who may feel lost in a bigger tuition setting, this can offer a good balance of group interaction and direct guidance. Families also value the customised worksheets, homework clinics, and regular progress updates, which can reduce some of the stress around schoolwork at home.

I discovered this Student Care Centre (SCC) sprouted up in the Geylang East neighbourhood and I really find that they have the heart to care for our children. They take the effort to cook healthy and good lunch and also cater extra for the children in case they are hungry.

As for tuition, I personally find teachers Rui Le and Charlotte will make the effort to set individualized questions for my kids to prep them for their Weighted Assessment (WA).

So keep up the good work!

I have been sending my children to EduFirst (Aljunied) ever since they opened the branch in 2020. Teacher Wendy (centre manager) is patient and effective when arranging for make-up lessons (since my children are involved in many enrichment programmes). Teacher Jonas is a teacher who goes the extra mile and ensures that his students can understand the concepts. Teacher Celeste is a teacher who excels at teaching POA, and helped my son score an A1.

My son has been there for almost 2 years now and I am full of praises for this centre! I love their curriculum and the in-house tuition. My son also enjoys their freshly cooked food. Teacher Wendy has been wonderful in managing the whole centre and Teacher Eugene has been a great teacher to my son. My son enjoys his time there and I will be enrolling my daughter next year too. Will definitely recommend this student care to others who need one!

My boy joined Edufirst since he started Primary 1 last year. The centre manager Wendy and teacher Eugene take strong ownership in running the centre effectively and pushing the students academically. From checking and guiding the students’ work to making them learn their spelling. They also give the students extra worksheets and practice to uphold learning standards. Teacher Eugene even requested that I continue to send my boy to the centre regularly, during the school holidays, so that he can maintain his Chinese learning progress. They provide prompt feedback to parents always. Very thankful to have such responsible centre manager and teachers.

My daughter has always been very weak in chinese. When she first started at Little Gems, her foundation was poor and she had little to no interest in the language. Two years on, my daughter’s chinese has improved and she tells me she now enjoys learning the language. The tutors at Little Gems catered to her ability and found ways to connect with her so that she can gain confidence and appreciate the language as part of daily life. The centre is very flexible and would adjust class schedules to maximise revision during exam periods. My daughter’s grades has seen vast improvement. Can’t be more grateful to Little Gems for making a real difference!

I only started my children with Little Gems 5 months ago in June 2025. They were both failing miserably in P1. The teachers are incredibly kind, patient and supportive. I have seen such big improvements in the standard of Chinese for my kids in just 5 months. Highly recommend this centre, especially if your kids are like mine and don’t speak Chinese at all in the home. The teachers do 1 on 1 and follow the MOE syllabus, which is so helpful. They don’t push or scold but use encouraging words and methods.

My daughter has been taking lessons at Little Gems for the past 6 years. Her teachers over the years have all been extremely caring and kind towards her, patiently adapting their teaching methods to suit my daughter's personality and needs. Under their tutelage, her grades have improved significantly over the years - am truly grateful. If you are seeking a learning centre that does not merely follow a cookie-cutter format of teaching, where the teacher never gives up on the student, this is the place to come to.

I’ve been in this tuition centre for over a year now and I think I’ve improve. i went from D7 (Right before going to the tuition centre) on my first WA to B4 in my End-of-year exam (After about a year in the centre). I really like the teaching style here as the style is extremely interactive and engaging as someone who only started learning chinese at 7 I would usually find Chinese boring and would always hate my Chinese lessons but in this centre, some times I wouldn’t even realise how much time have passed. The teaching style is also very consistent regardless of the teachers here. The teachers are also extremely friendly and encouraging, but they will still correct you when you didn’t do homework or when they think you are not trying hard enough. Overall this tuition centre works for me and I recommend it especially for people that find Chinese boring.

10. Mandarin Stars

10. Mandarin Stars

Overview of Business

Mandarin Stars is a specialised Chinese learning provider for primary school children who find Mandarin especially difficult. Founded by a psychologist, the centre combines educational teaching with psychological insight, giving it a distinctive angle among Primary 2 Chinese tuition options. Classes are very small, often with just 2 to 5 students, which allows teachers to provide close support. This may suit P2 children who struggle with memory, confidence, or attention during Chinese lessons. Instead of relying mainly on standard worksheets, Mandarin Stars uses colour-coded materials, mnemonics, and visual associations to help children remember characters and build confidence more gradually.

Why Parents Choose Mandarin Stars?

Parents often consider Mandarin Stars when conventional tuition has not worked well for their child. The tiny class size of 2 to 5 students can reduce pressure and make lessons feel more manageable. Its step-by-step teaching style is designed to help children experience small wins, which may be especially helpful for those who feel discouraged by Chinese. For families seeking more specialised support, this centre offers a different approach from mainstream primary tuition centres.

Teachers are great and has helped my kid with language difficulties and dyslexia (diagnosed) to cope with Chinese and has improved his Chinese progressively. More importantly, he has not shy away from lessons and grown to be more attentive as the lessons are geared in a manner that is suitable for his level so that he doesn’t feel overwhelmed or frustrated. The teachers also guided him well and that support is key for him to build confidence and want to improve .

The classes include a fun points reward system — students earn points for doing well, and they can redeem gifts with their points. Brandon is always excited to tell me how many points he has collected!

During the school holidays, he also enjoys the art lessons that incorporate Mandarin learning, making the experience both creative and educational. He always looks forward to attending his next class at Mandarinstars Learning.

The teachers at Mandarin Star are always so patient with my son. He is on the spectrum as well as ADHD, and they are able to handle him well. We come from a totally non-Chinese speaking family and he is able to recognize characters, his pronunciation needs work on but that’s a given since he is not exposed to it outside of class, but seeing him able to do homework on his own is already a great feat for us. Thank you Francis and teachers!

Subjects Offered

  • Primary Chinese (P1-P6)
  • PSLE Chinese Preparation (P6)

Teaching Methodology

  • Early primary classes focus on foundational character building.
  • Very small groups allow close tutor-student interaction.
  • Syllabus objectives are broken into progressive steps.
  • Colour-coded worksheets and mnemonics support character recall.
  • Diagnostic evaluations help identify learning needs.

Location and Availability

Mandarin Stars runs classes in Bukit Timah and also has availability in Novena for selected programmes. Online Chinese programmes are available as well.

How to Choose the Best Primary 2 Chinese Tuition for Your Child?

Finding the right fit is less about choosing the most famous name and more about finding an environment where your child feels supported and ready to learn. Before deciding, think about your child’s current struggles, whether that is weak Hanyu Pinyin, poor word recognition, or reluctance to speak Mandarin. Then match the teaching style to your child’s personality. Some children do well in lively group classes, while others improve faster with private support or very small groups.

  • Identify the exact area your child needs help with first.
  • Compare class size and the amount of speaking practice offered.
  • Consider travel time and lesson schedules carefully.
  • Ask about trial lessons, fees, and materials before committing.
  • Choose a setup your family can sustain comfortably over time.

Ultimately, the best primary Chinese tuition centre is one that builds confidence step by step and helps your child develop a healthier relationship with the language. Take time to compare the options above and choose the path that fits your child’s pace, needs, and daily routine.
