Highly recommended!!!🤩🤩. Started my learning journey this year January, 2026 and woo 🙌🏻 time flies. It’s been 6 months. ~ My initial plan was to just go for foundation course and then either ownself study or retake foundation (cuz you can 😉). However, I found myself enjoying the class more than I have expected. I find the curriculum and sensei’ teaching methods are perfectly catered to all levels of students with different backgrounds; especially if you have a full-time busy working schedules or you’re tired after work, you’ll still find yourself able to engage in the class. Not too overwhelming. The classroom size is neither too big nor too small. The Text book, the audio clips, the class recordings, the test and handouts are also useful for revision. Wish I had started this journey earlier! 🤣

I started with Bunka with absolute zero Japanese and now after 10 classes, I feel confident in my recognition reading and speaking skills.

Wakida sensei definitely make learning very fun and interactive. I enjoyed her teaching style catering to our class Ruth slightly differing pace.

I’m looking forward to the day where I could converse fluently in Japanese!

I took a Japanese language class with Lingo after taking it with another school. The consultant ask me patiently if I knew any Japanese alphabets and when I said that I don't know, he recommended me to take a Beginner class first to first learn Hira and Kata before jumping into Elementary class. I did that and it is completely changed my perspective on learning Japanese. The other school ask us to do self revision to pick up the pace. While Lingo guide me through the intracity of Japanese alphabets system. I recommend anyone to go for Lingo if your purpose is to learn Japanese the correctly and not the casual way.

My daughter has been attending the PG class for more than 6 months now, and even though she attends twice a week, she speaks fondly of her time here as she loves her teachers and classmates! She was initially very apprehensive to be dropped off when she first started, and would often cry due to separation but the teachers and principal Monica have been amazingly patient and loving towards her, giving her space to settle in with and without my presence, but also encouraging her slowly. She loves classes with Teacher Sree and Li Lao Shi, sings songs she learns in class and while she's at home, practices letter sounds and from pretty early on she would recite days and months of the year on her own (while playing/ conversing) at home. Her interest in mandarin has also grown significantly, with her trying to speak more mandarin at home and constantly asking us what the mandarin term for something is.

So far, the teaching methods have been at a comfortable pace and she seems to have a lot of fun learning. There is also much flexibility for parents and communication with teachers, and one of the best things here is the small teacher to student ratio, which means each child is cared for really well 🙂

It is indeed a caring, loving environment and the warmth that her teachers show towards her and her classmates really shows! Thank you so much to Principal Monica and all the teachers who have made a difference to Livvy's time here! 🙂

Brainy Child Montessori provides early childhood programs in a Montessori environment, focusing on structured learning and development for young children.
It’s been 6 years with Brainy Child since my daughter till my son graduated.

Our child has truly thrived at Brainy Child Montessori. He comes to school excited and curious. The teachers are incredibly attentive and genuinely care about each child’s individual growth, which has made a big difference in his confidence and independence.

My son needed extra support with studying, and Brainy Child Montessori has been wonderful in helping him build those skills. The teachers were patient, attentive, and intentional in providing individualized guidance, which helped my children gain confidence and make steady progress. The Montessori approach allowed them to learn at their own pace, and the bilingual environment further strengthened their language development. We’ve been very grateful for the encouragement and care they’ve received.

The bilingual/trilingual environment has been a wonderful gift. We’ve seen remarkable progress not only in his language skills, but also in his cultural awareness and openness to others. Being part of such an international and multicultural classroom has helped him develop empathy, respect, and curiosity about the world from a very young age.

We also deeply appreciate the small class sizes and flexible scheduling, education.

My son has been attending this Montessori school since he was 19 months old, and I’m so happy with our experience. The teaching methods are excellent— child-centered and easy for him to follow. Over time, I’ve seen such amazing progress. He used to say only a few words, and now he’s talking so much more with confidence!

The teachers are incredibly kind, patient, and genuinely care for the children. My son used to be shy at school, but now he looks forward to going every day. As a parent, it’s such a comfort knowing he’s in a safe, loving, and supportive environment. I’m truly grateful for this school and highly recommend it to any parent looking for a nurturing place for their child to grow

Did you know that every 19th of the month in Japan is Cream Puff day, because 19 sounds like "shūkurīmu", which is Japanese for cream puff? Cool right? I would not have known this, if not for the wonderful Manae Sensei.

Been with Tomo Language School since February this year, under the guidance of Manae Sensei, and every lesson has been fun and enjoyable. Apart from teaching us about the grammar rules and vocabulary, Manae Sensei also imparts lots of knowledge about Japanese history, culture, her city of Kyoto, and many other fun facts about the language and country.

I also found the pacing to be comfortable and course material easy to understand. Manae Sensei really makes lessons fun, and I thoroughly enjoy myself every lesson.

先生はとてもいいですよ!
I chose Tomo Language School because of its focus on conversational Japanese, and it has been exactly what I was looking for.

Started learning with Manae Sensei about a year ago since the Introductory class. She makes every lesson fun and engaging, and gives us opportunities to practice speaking. My classmates are a fantastic bunch too!

The pace of the lessons is also excellent—steady enough to make consistent progress without feeling overwhelming. So, it's well suited for busy folks who want to learn Japanese while balancing other commitments.

I highly recommend Tomo Language School and Manae Sensei to anyone looking to pick up Japanese in a fun and encouraging learning environment.

I have just completed Basic Part 4 class with Manae Sensei!

Signing up for classes with Tomo is one of the best decisions I’ve made this year. The learning experience has been extremely enjoyable and I cannot sing enough praises for Manae-sensei!! The classes are interactive and engaging, and the pace is just right. There is sufficient opportunity in class to practice what we learnt, and I have seen tremendous progress in my learning journey since attending classes here.

Manae sensei is also very good at addressing questions that we have, and breaks them down in a way that is easily understandable.

Highly recommend everyone to learn Japanese at Tomo! Their lessons are well structured and the learning materials are very helpful.

My experience of learning Japanese with Tomo Japanese Language School has been nothing short of an enjoyable and fulfilling time!

I first did the Beginner course with Manae-sensei, learning commonly used phrases for conversation and practical situations, and hiragana. Manae-sensei kept the class engaged through her sharing of authentic experiences, games and activities. Manae-sensei also makes sure to create a safe learning environment for her students, always encouraging us to try and not to worry about making mistakes. She makes sure to give each student a chance to practise, gently corrects us when needed and always answers our questions with patience.

I have been learning at Tomo and with Manae-sensei for almost a year since then and have recently completed Basic Part 4. I highly recommend giving them a try if you wish to learn Japanese in a fun and cosy setting!

If you are looking to learn Japanese efficiently while having a busy schedule, Tomo is the best place to learn from. The lessons are structured to be focused on conversation which helps many to learn how to start speaking, rather than purely being laser focused on reading and writing only.

Both casual learners and JLPT takers have a lot to take from the lessons here as the teachers are extremely helpful and fun. Manae sensei’s class is always fun and engaging, and she is very helpful in suggesting additional resources to learn from upon request. I have been learning japanese on my own initially, but these classes have helped expedite my speaking ability considering my busy schedule.

I highly recommend Tomo to anyone who wants to learn how to read, write and speak in Japanese without any stress or impact to your lifestyle!

Studied basic and ikoma and then I stopped for a few years. Went back joining their pre advance class and it was pretty fun. What I would like to highlight here is the JLPT N3 Prep course which I participated in. It had truly tackled the contents well and you’re bound to pass with good grades if you take the prep course seriously.

If I’m ever taking N2, I’ll definitely take the N2 prep course.

Cheers to all the teachers for making my Japanese language learning journey such a fun and memorable one. 😊

Special shoutout:
Nagai Sensei, Sugitate Sensei and Uehara Sensei 😊

I've "school-hopped" across a few Japanese schools in Singapore and I still think Ikoma is the best. The school has their own notes for learning Japanese grammar which have great explanations and is also very easy to understand. I can honestly self-study their own notes and feel confident enough to pass the JLPT exams.

Being students, all of us have different levels of motivation when it comes to studying a foreign language. So naturally some people might complain about the pace of teaching, like it's too slow for them, etc. But I would like to offer a different perspective.

Learning languages should be fun and engaging. The interaction with fellow students, practising conversations, and listening to the teacher talk is an important consideration for me. If you believe in this too, then I think you will have no problems here at Ikoma.

Ms Nakazawa is the best teacher so far. She is very lively and injects many onomatopoeic phrases while teaching in the class. Look out for this teacher if you are intending to register at this school, and make sure to choose her class if available.

Ikoma Language School is truly a gem for anyone looking to learn Japanese in Singapore. The teachers are native speakers, highly professional, and incredibly patient, ensuring every student is well-supported throughout their learning journey. The course structure is well-organized, with a strong balance of grammar, vocabulary, speaking, and cultural knowledge, making it perfect for beginners and advanced learners alike.

The location is conveniently situated in Orchard, making it accessible for both students and working professionals. The school also offers flexible schedules, which is great for busy individuals. I particularly appreciate how the teachers make lessons engaging and interactive, fostering an environment where students feel encouraged to actively participate and practice Japanese.

What stands out the most is the genuine passion the teachers have for teaching and their dedication to helping students succeed. Whether you’re preparing for the JLPT or learning Japanese for travel or work, Ikoma is the place to go. Highly recommended for anyone serious about mastering Japanese!
A huge shoutout to Ikoma Language School! I studied here many years ago and recently returned to join the advanced class. The teachers and front desk staff are incredibly welcoming, making the learning experience so enjoyable. I especially appreciate my advanced class teacher, Tsurumi, who is kind and explains concepts clearly. Highly recommend this school to anyone looking to learn Japanese!

Honestly a great place to start learning Japanese. I’ve never met a single bad teacher in Ikoma, all of them are so fun, friendly and encouraging in their own ways. They also allow you to switch to another class for a week if your schedule doesn’t align with your usual class, else they also provide 30 mins of makeup lesson before the next class, which is a really nice touch to help with your learning.

How to Choose the Best Japanese Class for Your Child

  • Age suitability: Confirm the provider accepts your child’s age before paying registration or course fees.
  • Learning purpose: Decide whether your child needs enrichment, conversation practice, school support or examination preparation.
  • Starting level: Look for a beginner entry point or placement process that prevents lessons from feeling too easy or overwhelming.
  • Teacher experience: Ask about instructors’ experience teaching Japanese to children of your child’s age and current ability.
  • Language balance: Check how lessons divide time among speaking, listening, reading, writing, vocabulary and grammar.
  • Script progression: Understand when Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji are introduced, and how children practise each writing system.
  • Teaching approach: Consider whether structured exercises, conversation, games, role-play or cultural activities suit your child.
  • Class attention: Ask about typical group size and how teachers support children needing clarification or extra practice.
  • Progress pathway: Compare stated levels, assessments and milestones so your child has a clear route beyond the first course.
  • School alignment: For MOELC or O-Level support, confirm that materials and lesson goals match school requirements.
  • Exam preparation: Check whether JLPT courses cover the intended level, examination format, timed practice and feedback.
  • Lesson format: Consider whether physical, online, hybrid, group or private instruction supports your child’s concentration and participation.
  • Schedule flexibility: Review lesson times, term dates, replacement policies and make-up arrangements against family commitments.
  • Travel demands: Balance classroom accessibility against journey time, especially for weekday evenings or busy weekends.
  • Cost clarity: Compare tuition, registration, textbooks, materials and GST alongside included lesson numbers and duration.

It has truly been a blessing to find Mr. Tan Tiam Teng as my son’s Chinese tutor. He is extremely knowledgeable, patient, and dedicated—qualities that have made a huge difference in my son’s learning journey. My Primary 4 son has shown remarkable improvement in his Chinese since starting lessons, and we are so grateful for the progress.

Beyond the academic results, Mr. Tan’s teaching style has built my son’s confidence and interest in the subject. He is punctual, pleasant disposition and understands what a child needs. The entire experience with Mind Flex has also been very pleasant, professional, and supportive.
