Free Request For Tuition

History revision can become frustrating when a teen remembers events but cannot explain provenance, compare sources or build a convincing essay under time pressure. This guide to the Top 10 O Level History Tuition Centres in Singapore helps parents compare specialist teaching, small-group support, online access, feedback practices and examination preparation. Each option approaches Source-Based Questions and Structured Essay Questions differently, so the right choice depends on whether your teen needs clearer content, better writing structure, stronger evaluation or greater speed. Fees, locations and class formats also matter when schoolwork, CCA and travelling already take up much of the week. The aim is to help families shortlist O Level tuition that addresses specific History weaknesses without creating an unsuitable workload or encouraging blind memorisation.

Key Takeaways

  • Strong O Level History tuition should connect accurate content knowledge with source evaluation, essay structure, precise evidence and realistic timed practice.
  • Small classes or one-to-one lessons may suit quieter teens, while recorded online resources can support revision around demanding school and CCA schedules.
  • Compare tutor experience, marking quality, syllabus fit, lesson format and fees before deciding whether a History tuition centre matches your teen.

MindFlex – Your Best Platform for O Level History Home Tuition

Overview of Business

MindFlex Tuition Agency connects Singapore families with private tutors for personalised O Level History tuition at home or online. Rather than following one fixed classroom programme, the agency matches each teen according to syllabus needs, weaker areas, schedule, budget and preferred tutor profile. Families may request tutors who can address History content, Source-Based Questions, essay planning, evidence selection or examination timing. Access to more than 50,000 active tutors gives parents room to compare qualifications and teaching styles instead of accepting a single class arrangement. The free matching service also supports families seeking part-time tutors, full-time educators or current and former MOE teachers. This flexible model may suit a teen who stays quiet in groups or needs lessons closely aligned with school topics and upcoming prelims.

Why Parents Choose MindFlex?

Parents may choose MindFlex when their teen needs targeted correction rather than another broad revision class. One-to-one lessons allow a tutor to inspect written work, identify recurring inference or essay errors and adjust the pace before O Level examinations. Home and online options may also ease travel pressure during busy CCA or prelim periods. The free matching process lets families review suggested profiles, rates and availability before committing, while coordinators remain available throughout the week to help with arrangements.

It has truly been a blessing to find Mr. Tan Tiam Teng as my son’s Chinese tutor. He is extremely knowledgeable, patient, and dedicated—qualities that have made a huge difference in my son’s learning journey. My Primary 4 son has shown remarkable improvement in his Chinese since starting lessons, and we are so grateful for the progress.

Beyond the academic results, Mr. Tan’s teaching style has built my son’s confidence and interest in the subject. He is punctual, pleasant disposition and understands what a child needs. The entire experience with Mind Flex has also been very pleasant, professional, and supportive.

Highly recommended for anyone looking for a tutor who genuinely cares and delivers excellent results

Friendly, pleasant, swift, helpful and most importantly not pushy

Beyond personalised home tuition, some parents may prefer a structured group programme with established materials, fixed classmates and a regular weekly timetable. MindFlex has helped collate the following centre information, together with current Google reviews where available, so families can compare History tuition centres by teaching approach, accessibility, fees and the type of examination support offered.

1. Herzen

Overview of Business

Herzen Centre For History specialises exclusively in History, with online programmes covering lower secondary, O Level, N Level and Junior College pathways. Its O Level offering supports both Elective and Pure History, with attention given to Source-Based Questions, Structured Essay Questions, content understanding and critical evaluation. Lessons emphasise applying a manageable body of key knowledge deeply across different questions, rather than memorising entire textbooks without knowing how to use the facts. Teens write during class and receive real-time corrections, which may expose vague inferences, unsupported claims and inefficient paragraphs before these habits become entrenched. Classes remain small, with centre information describing limits of five or six students, and notes are included. Anthony Choong leads History teaching and curriculum development, while the online format allows learners to attend without travelling after school.

Why Parents Choose Herzen?

Parents may consider Herzen when their teen knows the narrative but struggles to convert that knowledge into marks. Its History-only focus may appeal to families seeking detailed guidance on source interpretation, concise arguments and writing stamina rather than general Humanities coverage. Real-time correction gives quieter teens repeated opportunities to see exactly where their reasoning becomes incomplete. A free 30-minute one-to-one trial also allows the tutor and family to discuss paper weaknesses, learning preferences and expectations before joining a regular class.

Subjects Offered

  • Secondary History (Sec 1-2)
  • O Level Preparation
  • SEC Preparation

Teaching Methodology

  • Tutors teach selective content application, reducing excessive memorisation while strengthening answers across differently phrased examination questions.
  • Real-time writing and correction reveal weak reasoning immediately, before unclear phrasing becomes a repeated examination habit.
  • Small online groups allow closer pacing adjustments for teens who hesitate to ask questions in larger classes.
  • Google Slides support collaborative source analysis, making each inference and evaluation step visible during live discussion.
  • Exam-focused practice develops concise writing and time management, helping teens complete both source and essay components.

Location and Availability

All Herzen lessons are conducted online, which may suit teens who want live small-group support while avoiding travel after school, CCA or late dismissal.

Price Range

O Level Elective and Pure History lessons cost $50 per hour, with each regular lesson typically lasting two hours. A 30-minute one-to-one trial is free.

2. illum.e

Overview of Business

illum.e is an MOE-registered tuition centre offering upper secondary Humanities programmes that include Pure History and Combined Humanities with History and Social Studies. Its History tuition combines focused lectures, targeted practice, question analysis and immediate feedback, supported by in-house notes, infographics and mind maps. An average teacher-student ratio of 1:8 may give tutors more opportunity to notice when a teen understands content verbally but cannot express it precisely in writing. Lessons use structured strategies known as Thinking Frames to break question demands into repeatable steps rather than leaving students to guess what an examiner expects. Experienced educators deliver the programmes, with consultations and learning resources extending support beyond class. Six campuses across Singapore, together with online or hybrid arrangements for older learners, give families several ways to fit tuition around school commitments.

Why Parents Choose illum.e?

Parents may shortlist illum.e if their teen needs a clear system for approaching History questions instead of more unstructured note-taking. Thinking Frames and on-the-spot feedback can help reveal why a response loses marks through incomplete comparison, weak contextual knowledge or limited evaluation. The average 1:8 ratio may suit teens who need attention but still learn through peer discussion. Multiple campuses and remote lesson options may also ease scheduling pressure for families balancing revision, school consultations and CCA.

Before joining illum.e, I was scoring badly for GP up until promos in J1. I did not understand how GP worked and what was even required to score well in GP. After joining illum.e in J2, Mr Chia and Mr Yeo's lessons made me understand that GP was actually very much doable. Mr Chia and Mr Yeo would also always make the extra effort to help me mark and provide feedback on areas for improvement promptly. Would definitely recommend anyone considering a GP tuition centre to join illum.e!

I enrolled into Illume in 2024 in Mr Chia and Mr Yeo class at Jurong East campus, and throughout the 1.5 years in illume, I managed to improve my GP significantly through the structured classes and lectures. The lesson materials were useful since it provided easy to remember methods and strategies to tackle the broad subject requirements. Additionally Mr Chia and Mr Yeo were engaging and frequently put in the effort to make our lessons fun and interesting. Furthermore, Mr Chia and Mr Yeo would take time to consult with us and check our essay outlines or comprehension questions outside of lesson hours or during exam periods, even if they were very busy. Overall, illume has helped me not only in scoring an A for GP but also equip me with general knowledge about local and global affairs, which are valuable when entering the workforce in the future.

Mr Chia played the biggest role in helping me achieve an A for GP during my A Levels. Before attending his classes, I was completely clueless about how to write good essays, as the help given by my school teachers was too vague and confusing. I am very grateful to Mr Chia, who taught me how to use illum.e’s very own skill sets to dissect question types and keyword types, which are the keys to answering any type of essay question.

I truly appreciate that in every single lesson, Mr Chia made it a point to review every student’s answers and provide personalised feedback to target the weaknesses in our responses and teach us how to improve. I also liked that he engaged with his students in class to ensure that we were following him and to liven up the atmosphere. I was also pleasantly surprised when I wrote at least three additional essays for Mr Chia to mark and he returned them to me with fully annotated scripts showing where I could improve. Every piece of feedback was immensely useful. (He was not obliged to mark them at all.) This showed his dedication and responsibility towards helping his students.

As for comprehension, I went from barely passing to getting an A during prelims. Similarly, I would credit this improvement to Mr Chia. He was very encouraging, even when the class struggled to paraphrase certain words.

Finally, even though I only joined his classes in April of J2, I was able to see myself doing better in GP at school after applying the feedback Mr Chia gave. This shows how experienced he is in knowing exactly what his students need to do to perform better in the subject.

I 100% recommend juniors who feel uncertain about GP to join!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My English teacher, Mr. Chia from Illum Education (Jurong East), played a huge role in helping me achieve a B3 in my National Examinations.

When I first joined in mid-May, I was barely passing with around 50 marks. Even close to Prelims in late July, I was still stuck at 55 and extremely worried about my actual exams. After consulting Mr. Chia, the improvement I saw within just three weeks was honestly insane.

He didn’t just teach me content; he fixed my exam strategy. For Paper 1 (especially Situational Writing), I used to write the wrong things and overwrite. He taught me how to write less but include the right points to score higher. For Paper 2, I used to struggle to find answers in the passage, but after his guidance, it became much easier.

What really stood out was his care and dedication. Despite being busy, he still took time to mark my extra work and patiently answer my questions after lessons. He always checked in to make sure I had no doubts.

If you want results, Mr. Chia is the teacher you need. Highly recommended.

Mr Roger was my teacher at Illum.e. I joined midway through Sec 4, and many people questioned why I decided to start tuition so close to my O Levels. Previously, I believed I could self-study and still achieve a good grade for English. However, after receiving my WA1 and WA2 results, I realised my grades were declining from a C6 to a D7. That was when I told my mum that I needed tuition.

During my time at Illum.e, I learnt a lot from Mr Roger. He always took the time to explain every detail clearly, especially words or concepts that students were unsure of. Beyond that, Illum.e taught us how to approach questions based on what markers are actually looking for. This helped me understand how to answer effectively without overthinking or overwriting during exams.

As a result, I was able to manage my time much better in my actual O Levels. I am truly grateful to Illum.e and for my own hard work, which helped me achieve a B3 for my English O Levels.

My child’s English grade improved significantly from E8 to an A, and we are extremely grateful to illum.e.

After just one visit, we decided to entrust our child to the centre, and it proved to be the right decision. The staff at the Jurong East branch were warm, supportive, and professional, and Mr. Roger’s guidance made a tremendous difference. June felt comfortable and well-supported throughout her learning journey.

The materials provided were relevant and effective, and the team was always helpful and flexible in arranging make-up classes or alternative schedules when needed.

Thank you, illum.e, and especially Mr. Roger, for your dedication and commitment to our child’s O-Level success. We truly appreciate all your hard work.

Highly recommended!

MrLiew is also very patient and takes time to explain the mistakes that I and other students make. Before illume, I was very weak in GP and did not understand how to properly structure my essays, AQ and the SAQ formats, but thanks to MrLiew, I have a much much netter understanding especially for SAQs which really helped me improve in GP and i jumped 3 grades from mid years to prelims. MrLiew has greatly helped me in this short span of a few months!

3. The Humanities Clinic

Overview of Business

The Humanities Clinic focuses on Humanities tuition for secondary 3 to secondary 4 and Junior College students, including O Level Elective and Pure History. Its small-group model caps secondary classes at eight, creating room for discussion while retaining closer guidance than a large lecture setting. History lessons address source inference, political language, contextual application, timelines, PEEL writing, Source-Based Questions and Structured Essay Questions. The ECCE formula combines examination techniques, curated notes, critical-thinking discussions and exposure to higher-order questions, rather than treating History as a list of facts to reproduce. Co-founders Lynette Tan and Teo Min Shuen develop relevant O Level History curricula and bring more than 15 and 10 years of teaching experience respectively. Homework, feedback and examination-paper drills reinforce skills between explanations, which may benefit teens whose answers remain inconsistent despite regular revision.

Why Parents Choose The Humanities Clinic?

Parents often consider The Humanities Clinic when their teen needs both a structured answering framework and opportunities to discuss competing interpretations. Classes capped at eight may make it easier for tutors to catch weak provenance analysis or unsupported essay points, especially when a teen rarely volunteers questions at school. Concise notes can reduce revision overload, while 24-hour WhatsApp support offers help when practice questions become difficult between lessons. Live Zoom availability also gives families an alternative to travelling across Singapore.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Ms Teo for her dedication and guidance in helping my son achieve As in both H2 History and General Paper in the A-Level exams. Ms Teo teaches him to think critically, structure his arguments and write with clarity and precision. Her materials are up-to-date and well-curated. More importantly, she is very attentive to student’s progress. She ensures they keep pace with school, identifies areas for improvement early and prepares them thoroughly for tests and examinations. For General Paper, Ms Teo’s lessons were equally impactful. Her lessons are structured, engaging, and focused on building both content knowledge and writing skills. There is very regular practice on Paper 1 essays and Paper 2 comprehension. This consistency helped my son improve steadily over time. Despite her busy schedule, Ms. Teo is always responsive to students’ questions and is willing to go the extra mile, especially in the lead-up to major exams. She creates a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and seeking help. I am deeply thankful for the impact she has had on my son’s learning journey. I would highly recommend Ms Teo to any student looking to excel in H2 History and General Paper.

Miss Teo was truly a lifesaver during my A-Level journey. She guided me clearly through the new History syllabus, breaking down complex topics and exam requirements in a way that was easy to understand and apply.

Her notes were extremely high quality — concise, well-structured, and tailored exactly to what examiners look out for. The model answers she provided were especially helpful in showing me how to structure my essays and develop strong evaluation.

Most importantly, she helped turn a very lost and uncertain student into someone who eventually attained an A. I’m genuinely grateful for her patience, clarity, and dedication. I would highly recommend her if you are looking to improve your History grades.

4. Edufirst Learning Centre

Overview of Business

EduFirst Learning Centre supports Primary and secondary learners across numerous Singapore neighbourhoods, with O Level Pure and Elective History among its upper secondary subjects. Its general tuition model uses small groups of four to eight, customised materials, syllabus-aligned teaching and progressive learning from core understanding towards harder examination questions. For History, the most relevant value lies in close interaction, structured practice and individual feedback rather than a specialist History-only curriculum. Free homework clinics may give enrolled teens another opportunity to clarify assignments or troublesome questions outside normal class time. Periodic updates through phone or WhatsApp can help parents understand whether a teen is applying feedback consistently instead of judging progress from marks alone. Online live lessons are also available through secondary 4, widening access for families unable to reach a suitable branch conveniently.

Why Parents Choose Edufirst Learning Centre?

Parents may consider EduFirst when convenience and consistent academic supervision matter alongside O Level History preparation. Its islandwide branch network can shorten travel time, while classes of four to eight may help teens receive more direct correction than in crowded settings. Customised materials and progressive practice may suit learners who become discouraged when pushed straight into difficult prelim papers. Homework clinics and parent updates also provide useful continuity, particularly when completed worksheets do not reveal whether the same reasoning mistake keeps recurring.

I discovered this Student Care Centre (SCC) sprouted up in the Geylang East neighbourhood and I really find that they have the heart to care for our children. They take the effort to cook healthy and good lunch and also cater extra for the children in case they are hungry.

As for tuition, I personally find teachers Rui Le and Charlotte will make the effort to set individualized questions for my kids to prep them for their Weighted Assessment (WA).

So keep up the good work!

My boy joined Edufirst since he started Primary 1 last year. The centre manager Wendy and teacher Eugene take strong ownership in running the centre effectively and pushing the students academically. From checking and guiding the students’ work to making them learn their spelling. They also give the students extra worksheets and practice to uphold learning standards. Teacher Eugene even requested that I continue to send my boy to the centre regularly, during the school holidays, so that he can maintain his Chinese learning progress. They provide prompt feedback to parents always. Very thankful to have such responsible centre manager and teachers.

5. Zenith Education Studio

Overview of Business

Zenith Education Studio offers tuition from PSLE through Junior College, including upper secondary Pure and Combined History within its Humanities provision. Its O Level approach follows a Learn-Understand-Apply sequence, combining memory techniques, curated questions, critical-thinking exercises and active class discussion. Notes, model answers, past papers and revision guides may help teens see how accurate knowledge becomes a focused response rather than a lengthy narrative. Support continues beyond scheduled lessons through consultations and online channels, giving students ways to clarify assignments or feedback while revising independently. Zenith reports serving more than 20,000 students since 2019 and publishes an 80% O Level distinction rate across its programmes, although individual outcomes still depend on subject readiness and effort. Multiple branches offer convenience, and free trial classes are available subject to lesson capacity.

Why Parents Choose Zenith Education Studio?

Parents may shortlist Zenith Education Studio if their teen responds well to discussion, curated resources and a clear progression from learning content to applying it. Consultations may be useful when a student understands lectures but still produces weak source evaluations or poorly supported essays. Multiple branches can reduce weekly travelling, while online help gives teens another route to ask questions near prelims. Families should still confirm the specific History class size and timetable, since the broader programme uses group teaching rather than full one-to-one tuition.

If you asked me what it means to be a bubbly, food loving critic that is competent and skilled in teaching Chemistry, there’s only one name that comes to mind. OSN - Ong Shi Neng ☃️

Since the first lesson he has been relentless in ensuring quality education, good eats and promoting a healthy lifestyle. Chemistry in Zenith for the past 1.5 years have truly been like no other. The teachers are caring and helpful, reassuring us that we are prepared, organising 24 hour zooms the night before, just so we can feel a bit more secure the day before the exam. It is no surprise that he is one of Zenith’s most beloved tutors. #Notfreepromo

I attended Chenfang's E-Math classes from Sec 3 to 4 and it really was an amazing experience to be learning with her!

In Sec 4, I jumped from a C6 for Prelims to a B3 for O's, something I thought I wouldn't be able to achieve. Chenfang helped me to understand what my weak points were through weekly assessments and so I improved steadily. Her classes are also really fun since she makes sure that we are not just studying but enjoying the process!
The worksheets at Zenith also helped a lot as there were many diverse types of questions that helped with gradual and thorough understanding, with extras for practice at home! The snacks were also a real help for staying focused in class 🙂

I joined Nick's class in sec 3 for physics and he has helped me get good grades for physics throughout my upper sec and eventually get a1 for o levels. Without Nick I do not think I would have achieved such a good score. He is a very good teacher and makes lessons feel fun and explains concepts very well, I have not been lost or confused once in his lessons throughout my two years with him. I look forward to his classes every week and he made me fall in love with physics.😍😍 He also helps me with physics questions outside of lesson time when I whatsapp him especially when I was preparing for my exams.👍👍👍

I attended Nicholas Koh’s classes when I realised I was failing Chemistry and Physics in my Sec 3 WA2s. He helped pull my grades up from an F9 to an A2 for my O Levels! I truly appreciate his help so much. He is understanding, yet he also challenges me and strongly believes in my potential. His lessons are unlike those of other tutors who simply spoon-feed information instead, he makes sure new concepts are thoroughly drilled into your head so you truly understand them. Thank you Nick you genuinely changed my life. You’re the best!

I was a J2 student taking H2 physics under duncan!! Duncan is honestly one of the best physics tutors I’ve ever had. He answers my questions incredibly fast and always makes sure I fully understand the concepts before moving on. You can tell he really puts in the effort. tbh it feels like he works around the clock just to help his students. He’s super helpful, patient, and you can clearly see that he genuinely loves what he does. Highly recommend him to anyone who wants to improve in physics!

Because of laychuns lessons, I feel more confident in econs and I have improved in applying concepts on my own. He is patient, encouraging and genuinely wants his students to do better. Lessons are productive and I always end up learning something useful.

Shi neng has made chem very fun and enjoyable for me, this has made chem seem so much easier in school. He explains concepts very clearly and his lessons are very engaging!

Overall, I would recommend them to anyone who wants to improve and understand the subject better.

Shi Neng chemistry class is so good. Like everyone around me keeps saying chemistry is so hard and honestly I did find Chem hard before joining zenith Chem. However, after I went for June trial for energetics I realised how simple Chem is. Especially he helped me so much in organiche Chem by covering all the foundations and the small tiny details! I rlly recommend this class and I have gotten A /B throughout the time I have been with zenith. It’s also very fun cause he has a sense of humour HAHA !

My time at zenith has been really wonderful and really enjoyable. My chemistry tutor , Shi Neng has been really helpful at helping me understand H2 chemistry and making the journey more fun and bearable. Even with simple and obvious questions , Shi Neng has always been patient and really helpful with explaining chemistry concepts! Even with welfare he has always been very generous and thoughtful. TLDR he is a very thoughtful teacher and I wish I would have joined earlier 😭😭 676767

6. Smartlab Education Centre

Overview of Business

SmartLab Education Centre has provided tuition since 1999 and offers upper secondary History, Social Studies and Combined Humanities alongside broader secondary subjects. Its regular tuition approach uses the Exploration, Strengthening and Consolidation system, with structured notes, problem-based learning, examination-oriented worksheets and small classes described at a 1:6 ratio. O Level learners may study History as an individual subject or within Social Studies and Elective History combinations, depending on their chosen programme. Past-paper questions and guided feedback help connect content knowledge to examination expectations rather than leaving teens to revise chapters without checking their written application. SmartLab also runs a private-school pathway with daily lectures, discussions, group tasks and practice tests, although this differs from ordinary weekly tuition. The organisation reports supporting more than 20,000 PSLE, O Level and A Level learners since its establishment.

Why Parents Choose Smartlab Education Centre?

Parents may consider SmartLab Education Centre for its long operating history, structured materials and examination-oriented practice. The described 1:6 ratio may appeal when a teen needs closer monitoring but still benefits from hearing classmates discuss alternative interpretations. Its Exploration, Strengthening and Consolidation sequence can provide a clearer revision rhythm than repeatedly attempting papers without targeted correction. Families can also choose among several branches, although they should distinguish regular weekly History tuition from the more intensive private-school O Level course before comparing fees and schedules.

After doing some research, smartlab is the most cost efficient in terms of price and quality, with lab provided and up to date teaching. If you are looking for structure and support even with 0 experience, this is the best place to consider imo.Smartlab also has a diverse student pool so study environment wise,it would require more adaptability and flexibility! Personally,I had to take on a new Alevel subject as a private candidate but I was able to manage thanks to Smartlab. Thank you to all the teachers who remained encouraging throughout this journey!

My daughter joined smartlab to prepare for O-levels, she took Science (Chemistry, Biology) and English at the centre. It was months of their guidance, termly assessments and feedbacks from teachers in preparation for the Os.
She was able to get A2 in Science. The reward she gets from Smartlab every time she gets an A for the Science term assessment added to her motivation. 😁 She said that she was relying on the notes given to her by her teacher towards the exams and she was so thankful of it that she decided to keep all of it if she may need it in the future. She is so thankful to her teachers in Science, I am so thankful to them as well for keeping her more interested in the subject that she loves and helping her excel on it.
As for English she may have not got better result that she wanted still thankful she was able to get passing grade for it.

This is from a parent’s perspective. It was not an easy decision to have my daughter retake her o levels because of the stigma of wasting another year. I knew and so did my daughter from before her prelims that aiming for the result she wanted to get into a school of her choice would be quite impossible. I already started thinking of alternatives and by God’s grace I found out about SmartLab Private School and had a long chat with Tony. After that the path was clear and even when the results were not out, my daughter was registered at the school. 1 year later, the results speak for itself. No tuition this time! Chloe won 2 awards for good performance as well! SmartLab is more than a school, it is a place for those who want direct their own direction in life. Thank you SmartLab for being the light in our lives when we most needed it.

I had a blast the past year studying at smartlab! Every teacher was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and patient. Any part of the syllabuses that I did not understand would be explained to me with patience and repeatedly if necessary without them showing any sign of frustration! Texting the teachers was always recommended if clarification on topics was needed. The classrooms were all kept clean and the teachers always came prepared and well equipped for upcoming lessons. They provided us with ample notes and practice papers to ensure no gap in knowledge whatsoever. Thank you to Mr Tay Tien Kiat, Mr Tan Wei Ee, Mr Collin Lim and Principal of the SmartLab Mr Tony Tan for their guidance and support throughout the year! Highly recommended for those considering taking A levels for the first time and for retakers as well!😊

I enrolled at Smartlab last year to prepare for my O Levels as a private candidate at the age of 24.
Back when I was 17, I took my N Levels and completely flunked them. I had no interest in studying at all. My grades were English (4), History (Absent) and the rest ungraded (Math, Science, POA). Fast forward to last year, after studying with Smartlab, my O Level results were English (A2), Humanities (Social Studies + History) (B4), Business Studies (B3) and POA (B3). Although I didn’t manage to pass Math (D7), I think I did pretty well considering I hadn’t studied for almost 8 years.
Smartlab’s teachers and teaching strategies were very effective, they managed to cover about four years’ worth of content in less than a year. Their resources and structured approach really helped me regain my confidence in studying.
Special thanks to Mr. Collin, who taught me English, Social Studies and History. He’s extremely encouraging, patient and always willing to help. I often texted him late at night with questions and he would always reply quickly.
Overall, Smartlab’s teaching methods, materials and supportive teachers made a huge difference in my learning journey. I’m very thankful for their guidance and would highly recommend Smartlab to anyone preparing for their O Levels.

Smartlab has truly helped me achieve my dreams! When I joined, I was determined to do well for my O-Levels, and thanks to the supportive teachers and their effective teaching methods, I was able to reach my goals. The environment was always encouraging, and the teachers genuinely cared about helping every student succeed.

Because of the foundation I built at Smartlab, I’m now pursuing my Diploma in Criminology at a private academy — something I’ve always been passionate about. I’m really grateful for the guidance, motivation, and belief that Smartlab gave me throughout my journey.

Thank you, Smartlab, for being such an important part of my success and for always reminding your students to believe in themselves! 🙏🎓✨

Thank you so much, SmartLab, for giving me a second chance to redeem myself for my O-Levels and allowing me to pass all my subjects with flying colours. My chemistry especially, have improved tremendously, from E8 to A2!! After many negative experiences in my former school, SmartLab completely changed my perspective on studying and learning.

The teachers here are incredibly kind, patient, and dedicated — they take the time to explain every concept clearly until you truly understand it. They never make you feel judged or left behind, and their encouragement really motivated me to keep going. You can also approach the teachers anytime after class if you still have any doubts. They also provide really good notes and you even get to do hands-on practice for your Science practical at their lab!

The learning environment is also very conducive — quiet, comfortable, and filled with people who genuinely want to learn and improve themselves. I always felt supported not only academically but also emotionally, which made a huge difference in my confidence and attitude toward my studies.

I’m truly grateful for everything SmartLab has done for me. It’s not just a tuition centre — it’s a place that helped me rebuild my self-belief and rediscover the joy of learning. Highly recommend to anyone who wants to do well and feel supported along the way!

7. learnMOJO

Overview of Business

learnMOJO provides online Humanities coaching for secondary 1 to secondary 4, including Combined Humanities with Social Studies and History at O Level. Founded in 2014 by former MOE History and Social Studies teacher Karen Ang, it uses NIE-trained former MOE educators experienced in setting examinations and marking scripts. Small-group coaching is capped at four students and combines weekly assignments, live online teaching, marking, corrections and continuing support. Its D.A.T.A. System uses bite-sized practice, assessment, targeted teaching and reinforcement, which may help teens who postpone History until the amount of unfinished work feels unmanageable. Recorded lessons remain in a private virtual classroom for review, while personalised feedback and WhatsApp groups extend help between sessions. The fully online arrangement removes travel and may suit students needing regular accountability around school and CCA schedules.

Why Parents Choose learnMOJO?

Parents may choose learnMOJO when their teen needs frequent marked work rather than occasional full-paper practice. Groups of up to four can provide close attention, while weekly corrections make it harder for recurring History mistakes to remain unnoticed. Former MOE teachers bring examination-setting and script-marking experience that may help students understand how answers are judged. Recorded sessions and online support also suit families seeking structured O Level History tuition without adding travel to an already crowded week.

Through Teacher Karen dedicated guidance, my child scored A2 for History. The comprehensive notes and worksheets helped my child to consistently achieve As throughout his Sec 2. Even though, he is unable to attend the live lessons due to CCA commitments, he is able to do it the day after as it’s available for students to watch recordings anytime and clarify any doubts through the Q&A support. Thank you Teacher Karen for encouraging my son to keep trying the questions and guided him patiently!

My daughter joined the Sec 1 online history and geography lessons in 2025 and she was able to fully understand the syllabus. The teachers were patient with all of her questions and answered her questions. They also explained the syllabus very clearly such that she was able to understand within one lesson. The notes were also very simple and easy to understand for her to be able to do self revision and memorise the notes quickly. She improved from B4 to A2 in just a short period of time. She is happy to continue with the sec 2 online lesson for both subjects this year due to the flexibility and the effectiveness of the lesson.

We would like to extend our thank you and greatest appreciation to Tr Karen and Tr Stacy for doing such a wonderful and great job with their online lessons and dedicated guidance.

Learn Mojo provides very well structured notes. The techniques taught on how to answer different types of examination questions were especially useful. Chapter summary notes for memorisation, practise paper that comes with soft copy answers as well as video for each question to explain for the child were very well developed. My child was initially cluless how to study for history when he commence his sec 1 journey, but Learn Mojo played a very crucial role in my child's attainment of A1 for history and A2 for geography for his EOY.

My son enjoyed the sec 1 online history and geography lessons. The 1-hour lessons are just the right length — focused and efficient, without the need to spend time travelling. It helped to reinforce what they learned during lessons. Overall, a happy learning experience!

  • Focused live teaching addresses diagnosed gaps, preventing lesson time from repeating content the teen already understands securely.
  • Recorded online sessions allow careful replay, supporting revision when complex source-analysis explanations are difficult to absorb immediately.
  • Private WhatsApp groups offer ongoing clarification, helping students resolve practice difficulties before the next scheduled lesson.

8. Bespoke Learning Centre

Overview of Business

Bespoke Learning Centre offers small-group tuition across Primary and secondary levels, including Combined Humanities for secondary 3 to secondary 5 learners preparing for O Level or N Level examinations. Its Combined Humanities coverage includes Social Studies with History or Geography, supported by MOE-aligned in-house materials and personalised learning plans. History-related teaching uses Source-Based Question and Structured Response Question methods, PEEL writing, model essays and answer templates. These structures may help teens who remember content but struggle to decide how much evidence, explanation and evaluation each response needs. Groups are capped at eight for the described secondary programmes, while former MOE teachers contribute to curriculum development and lesson delivery. Enrolled students can also use round-the-clock WhatsApp homework support, giving them a way to clarify difficult questions while completing school or tuition work.

PEEL guidance and answer templates can reduce uncertainty at first, while targeted feedback may help students move beyond formulaic responses as their judgement improves. Classes of up to eight may provide more opportunities for individual correction than larger lectures. Four northern and eastern branches offer practical choices, particularly for families who prefer face-to-face O Level History tuition near home.

2. Open until 8pm (Commit 6:30pm), have air-conditioning.
3. Can fetch any time. (Commit if you late a minute have to wait hours for next slot to fetch kids, strictly no compromise)
4. Teacher more patient, talk loud to student but not shouting. (Compared to Commit teachers keep shouting at student)
5. My child is happier there.

If I could give zero stars, I would. Do NOT register your child at Bespoke Khatib.
The level of negligence here is appalling. The teachers failed to pick up my daughter twice in two weeks. This isn't just a "mistake"—it is a recurring safety failure that shows they learn nothing from their errors. There was an incident happened on 30th Jan, Friday where they failed to pick up my daughter and her friend from the bus stop simply because they assumed there was no school, without even bothering to verify with the parents.

Similarly, another incident happened at 6th Feb, Friday, where they failed to pick up my daughter when she is alone.

Worse still, the management is a total mess. The Cluster Head, Bernard, doesn’t even know his new teachers' names, which points to a massive internal organisational issue. There is clearly zero respect for leadership and no communication.

To top it off, on the day of the incident, the teacher Qilah at the centre kept rejecting my calls instead of facing the situation. Teacher Qilah even said that she would take a photo of my child when my child was not picked up. At least, they should show some effort to find the kids that were not picked up. If you value your child’s safety, stay far away from this place as the teachers will not account who is missing.

In addition, the upper management fail to give an apology to the parents and only rely on Bernard, the cluster head to communicate. This showed a lack of respect to the affected parents regarding their mistakes in oversight for failing to correct the mistakes twice. I should not have believe they will change after the first incident. Please learn from my mistake.
Bespoke Learning Centre has been wonderful for our kid. Ms Natasha and all teachers are caring and friendly. My child feels happy and safe there. The teachers help with schoolwork which takes a huge load off for us parents. The students are also taught about the importance of chores. My child enjoys the food here. We are glad we found this student care centre.

My child has grown more confident, independent, and always looks forward to going. Highly recommended to any parent looking for quality care and guidance for their child.
At Bespoke, the teachers are both professional and knowledgeable, creating a supportive and engaging environment for learning. The staff are approachable and make the center a welcoming place for students. My child enjoys attending Bespoke for after-school care, and I appreciate the wide range of activities available, especially during school holidays. They also assist with homework and provide additional assessments, which has been incredibly helpful. 2nd - the admin staff change the teacher for the day without informing the student parent
3rd - for primary 1 math , they teach the kids by using calculator and is not the first time.

9. The Urban Historian

Overview of Business

The Urban Historian provides live online History and Social Studies tuition for Singapore secondary learners, including secondary 3 to secondary 4 History Elective preparation. Teaching is led by a former MOE Humanities Head of Department with 20 years of classroom experience. Weekly small-group lessons cover Source-Based Questions, structured responses, essay writing, notes, model answers, mock examinations and targeted feedback aligned with the MOE syllabus. Close online annotation and side-by-side source analysis make the reasoning process visible, which may benefit teens who receive marks at school without understanding exactly where their evaluation weakened. Regular writing practice also addresses the common gap between recognising a good answer and producing one independently under time pressure. Self-paced Urban Academy resources are available separately for revision, although families seeking direct correction may prefer the live tuition format.

Why Parents Choose The Urban Historian?

Parents may turn to The Urban Historian when their teen needs specialist History teaching without travelling to a physical centre. Live annotation, instant marking and step-by-step guidance may clarify difficult distinctions between inference, reliability, usefulness and comparison. The experienced former Humanities Head of Department may appeal to families seeking close familiarity with Singapore examination expectations. Self-paced resources also offer revision flexibility, although teens who lack discipline may gain more from live weekly accountability than independent videos alone.

Subjects Offered

  • Secondary Humanities: History (Sec 1-4)
  • Secondary Social Studies (Sec 3-4)
  • O Level Preparation
  • SEC Preparation

Teaching Methodology

  • Live source annotation exposes each reasoning step, helping teens understand how evidence supports a defensible interpretation.
  • Side-by-side comparisons make similarities and differences explicit, reducing incomplete answers that discuss only one source.
  • Regular writing practice builds fluency, while instant marking prevents repeated structural errors from becoming established habits.
  • Model answers demonstrate examination standards, helping learners compare their reasoning without simply memorising polished paragraphs.
  • Mock examinations develop pacing and stamina, preparing teens to complete source and essay responses under pressure.

Location and Availability

Weekly small-group lessons are conducted live online on weekday evenings. Self-paced Urban Academy courses allow teens to revisit secondary History resources independently at any time.

Price Range

Urban Academy self-paced secondary History costs $38 monthly and includes three days of free access. Families should enquire directly about live small-group tuition rates.

10. Sophia Education

Overview of Business

Sophia Education offers tuition across Primary, O Level, Integrated Programme, Junior College and IB pathways, with History available at O Level and higher levels. Families may choose small-group tuition or VIP one-to-one lessons, allowing different levels of individual attention for teens struggling with History. Its general teaching process begins with a weakness analysis, followed by customised notes, topical worksheets, examination questions, mistake review and progress tracking. This approach may help separate content gaps from technique problems, such as misreading provenance or writing paragraphs without sustained judgement. Tutors are described as graduates of leading universities with seven to 20 years of teaching experience, while parents receive lesson updates. In-centre and online formats, individual consultations and WhatsApp homework support provide flexibility beyond the scheduled class.

Why Parents Choose Sophia Education?

Parents may shortlist Sophia Education when their teen needs a choice between very small groups and one-to-one instruction. A weakness analysis can focus early lessons on specific History chapters or answering problems instead of restarting the entire syllabus. Customised worksheets, mistake tracking and parent updates may give families clearer signs of progress before prelim results arrive. Multiple branches and online lessons also provide scheduling flexibility, although parents should confirm that the assigned tutor’s experience closely matches the current O Level History syllabus.

I want to express my heartfelt appreciation for Mr. Ng's dedication as my son's Biology tuition teacher. Under his guidance, my son achieved remarkable progress, improving by more than 3 grades, which exceeds the advertised expectation of >2 grades. My son had consistently scored between C6 and F9 grades previously, but Mr. Ng’s unwavering commitment made a significant difference.

His detailed post-lesson summaries, carefully assigned homework and focus on going through relevant past papers have been instrumental in my son’s improvement. Thank you, Mr. Ng, for your exceptional effort and for making such a positive impact!

The teacher (Irene) is energetic, caring and effectively bilingual. After the class, we get a short summary (in English) of progress made and gaps remaining. This is the most proactive and structured teaching i have seen and for parents that are not bilingual, this is excellent. Also, there is an emergency WA chat if your child gets stuck with homework or assignments... So far so good!!

How to Choose the Best O Level History Tuition for Your Child?

The best O Level History tuition for your teen depends on the precise reason marks are being lost. Some learners need clearer timelines and content links, while others require repeated marking for Source-Based Questions, essays or time management. Before enrolling, consider the following points and involve your teen in the decision.

  • Identify the main History weakness first, whether it involves content recall, source evaluation, essay structure, evidence selection or completing papers within time.
  • Match teaching format to learning habits, choosing one-to-one guidance, small groups, live online lessons or independent resources according to actual study behaviour.
  • Examine tutor experience with O Level History, especially familiarity with current question demands, script marking, common misconceptions and effective written feedback.
  • Ask how written work receives correction, because attractive notes alone may not fix unsupported inferences, descriptive essays or repeated errors in judgement.
  • Balance class size against participation needs, as quieter teens may require closer prompting, while confident learners might benefit from discussing alternative interpretations.
  • Compare location, reviews and total budget, including travel time, lesson duration, material charges and whether online access makes regular attendance more realistic.

A trial lesson or direct conversation with the tutor may reveal more than promotional claims. Bring a recent History paper, ask how its weaknesses would be addressed and observe whether the explanation makes sense to your teen. The right History tuition centre should offer demanding but manageable practice, specific feedback and a routine your family can sustain through prelims and the O Level examination.
